Tenchu going mobile

Activision and TKO Software announce that they're working on a cell phone version of Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven for release later this year

TKO Software has today announced that it has teamed up with Activision to adapt the PlayStation 2 game Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven for cell phones. The game will feature characters and locales that are true to the original game, and it will reward players for employing stealth techniques rather than force whenever possible.

"We are thrilled to be the first development studio bringing an action-adventure game of this complexity to the wireless world," said Jacob Hawley, CEO of TKO Software. "Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven is fun to play but also demands concentration, a cunning mind, and an ability to use the tools and weapons used by the ancient ninja warriors. We think road warriors with time on their hands, high school kids, and cell phone users with a hunger for heroism will quickly be lured into the world of feudal Japan."

"We have partnered with TKO because of the studio's gifted creative team, its understanding of the genre, and its considerable expertise in creating games for the mobile phone platform," added Dave Anderson, director of business development and licensing at Activision. "We expect the increased visibility and exposure of the game on cell phones will result in even stronger demand for the console game. We hope this will be just the first of our successful collaborations with the TKO team."

The mobile version of Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven is currently scheduled for release toward the end of this year. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
