Telltale's The Walking Dead Final Season Dated

The first episode drops on August 14.

The last season of Telltale's acclaimed Walking Dead series kicks off this summer. The developer announced that the first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season drops on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 14, with a Nintendo Switch release set to follow sometime later this year.

The Final Season marks the culmination of Clementine's story, who Telltale says has grown into a "fierce and capable survivor." In addition to a new over-the-shoulder camera system, The Final Season features a new "Graphic Black" art style and scenes with unscripted combat. The developer also teases that players will need to wrestle with "new types of choices" as they guide Clementine's story to its conclusion. Here's Telltale's synopsis of the season:

"After years on the road facing threats both living and dead, a secluded school might finally be her chance for a home. But protecting it will mean sacrifice. Clem must build a life and become a leader while still watching over AJ, an orphaned boy and the closest thing to family she has left. In this gripping, emotional final season, you will define your relationships, fight the undead, and determine how Clementine's story ends."

Ahead of its release, players can pre-order The Final Season on PS4, Xbox One, and PC beginning June 8. Pre-orders run for $20 and grant players access to all four episodes of the season as they become available. Those who reserve the game on consoles will also receive The Walking Dead Collection, a compilation of all previous 19 episodes in the series.

In addition to the final season of The Walking Dead, Telltale is currently working on a new season of The Wolf Among Us. That was originally slated to launch later this year, but it has now been pushed back into 2019. According to the developer, the delay comes partly "as the result of a few fundamental changes here at Telltale since we first announced the game last summer"--presumably referring to the major layoffs that hit the studio late last year.

Can't help but be a little excited for this wrap up to a great series.

As someone who has played all the Walking Dead installments I'm really looking forward to how Clementine's story pans out. You just know she's gonna end up having a similar fate to Lee on some level (probably mirroring it on some level.) but the way the story unfolds I'm sure will be engaging and keep gamers in suspense the whole time.

@videogameninja: Im excited and scared at the same time. I remember in season one when I realized the story was never about Lee but it was Clementine all along. Then to watch her actually grow up in the zombie apocalypse there is no story quite like it in the video game world. Our little Clem is a survival warrior now.

@craigtl: Definitely a great series. If this is the last one in the franchise (which I highly doubt; probably just the end of Clementine's story.) then I hope they pull out all the stops!

@videogameninja: Hopefully this season will be available on disc. I missed out on season 3 because of it's download-only approach. Damn shame - no game has made man tears run down my face like Walking Dead Seasons 1 & 2 did!

@good_coop89: I've bought all of them (and every Tell Tale game for that matter.) as a physical copy so I can completely sympathize with you. If I'm not mistaken Season 3 of TWD was available as a disc with the first episode on it but it had a season pass to receive all the other episodes as they released.

I usually, and in all likeliness will probably, wait for all episodes to be released before purchasing the game as I can't stand waiting months to find out what happens next.

So even though technically they are offering it as a disc I understand what you mean and like you would actually hope one day they go back to at least offering the entire series on disc right out of the package (no downloads.).

@videogameninja: Yeah I mean, it's not like they're saving money because they still have to manufacture and ship the discs and all that. Just treat it like a season dvd boxset, if they're so determined to present it like a season of tv.
