Tekken Tag Tournament 2 arcade bound

TGS 2010: Japanese-arcade-only sequel to dual character fighter confirmed for summer 2011 release; no confirmation of home console ports or international access.

TOKYO--The original Tekken Tag Tournament was one of the premium fighting games of its generation and was a big hit both in its original arcade form and later when the highly regarded PlayStation 2 version hit homes. Now, almost 10 years since its PS2 release, the popular fighting game is finally getting a sequel, simply titled Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

And they came in, two by two.
And they came in, two by two.

Series producer Katsuhiro Harada made the announcement at the Tougeki Space Battle Opera finals, a fighting game event held concurrently with the Tokyo Game Show. Harada showed a teaser trailer for the game to the Tougeki crowd--when the trailer first began, it simply looked like a regular Tekken 6-type match between Kazuya and Jin Kazama. Suddenly, Asuka Kazama tags in, which caused the Tougeki crowd to cheer as they realised a new Tag game was being unveiled. The trailer then showed a few rapid cutscenes of battle, and it seems that as well as featuring the fast character switching of the original, Tekken Tag Tournament will allow players to set up combos directly from tags.

And now for the bad news: Tekken Tag Tournament is confirmed for release only in arcades, and only in Japan. No confirmation was given as to whether the game will eventually make it to home consoles. The last Tekken game--Tekken 6--was released last year for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 over a year after the original iteration hit the arcades. Tekken 5, however, took a mere three months to make the transition, while Tekken 4 took almost a year.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is due out in Japanese arcades some time in the summer of 2011, according to the teaser trailer, with other regions to be confirmed. Keep it tuned to GameSpot for more news on Tekken Tag Tournament 2 as it emerges.

I think it will eventually end up on home systems pending how well it does in the Japanese Arcade as pre-sequel to Tekken7.whith Tekken6 chalk up sales 38 million there is every reason to have faith that Namco will do the decent thing and port it with the first one as a double pack but its just far to early to say although a PS3 only port might be in the making this time round. The Japanese have lost a bit of confendence in making appealing games

LOL I'd like to see Asuka and Lili as a team together. :P Overall, I'm extremely ecstatic there is a Tekken Tag Tournament 2!

Though it only looks like a remake of T6, the possibilities are amazing. I especially loved those grab combos. And when I first saw the video, I lol'd when that "Kazuma Style Traditional Martial Arts Secret Technique" thing came up.

I hope there are new CG ending movies/intros just like T6:BR. And I want another Tekken Force mini game (yeah I know, but it is fun). The practice mode should have command capture, of course, and try to ressemble the recent Virtua Fighter games' practice modes. I own Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution on PS2, and it is true, the practice mode is better in VF. I also want command attack mode. This mode was on the PSP version of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. It is like a time attack mode where the game times you while you learn many of your character's attacks and combos. Maybe an updated, expanded version? I really liked this mode, it helped to combine the fun of time attack with the precision of practice while erasing the monotony of practice mode. Can't wait! It only took them about 12 years!

The easiest solution would be just to add it in Tekken 7... There's no point in making it a stand alone game when there could just be a Tag mode in Tekken 7. Besides we still have Tekken x SF and SF x Tekken/

come on! the good thing about tekken is that it was realistic, and now they ad some weird tag movement with a player just appearing in the screen :S plus I think its about time that they get rid of the blurry colors when hitting a opponent. well, meabe next console lol

OF COURSE this will head to consoles and arcades outside of Japan. This is Namco-Bandai, not Sega. The only question is, when. It shouldn't be as long as Tekken 6 since this shouldn't take that long to port or develop since it's basically a souped-up T6.

This is why American Game companies should focus on American audiences first. Turn about is fair play.

Tekken Tag was the best in the series. I'm sure this one will either replace that title, or be second best at least.

It's stupid that they'd release this now of all times. Tag combat should have been a feature in every post Tag release. Especially 6, which this looks like a simple mod of. If this is be released here, it better be $10 DLC, otherwise it's not worth it. Plus, there aren't enough "dead" characters left anymore to make it justifiable. Most of the dead characters can be found in better forms in Tekken 6, like Asuka as a new Jun. Any old character would have to be modified to the point of being completely unlike the original if they would to be balanced.

Tekken is always announced for arcades and then consoles later. Always. Also I hope they bring back some of the dead characters.

Hope this comes out on the consoles. It's a shame that the arcade gaming world has fallen into near nothing and been replaced by slot machines. I miss standing next to random people and playing against them, you got really competative with a complete stranger and would be happy win or lose.

It'll be port to home console soon anyway. Namco is in a pinch right now with low sale on Tales and Ace Combat series.

Yes! Oh God yes! While not any time soon there's a good chance for a western console release, pretty much happens with all the others. If this is the case bring back some older characters to like Ogre.
