Tekken 7 Producer Criticises Korean Ratings Board for Leaking Screenshots

Bandai Namco's Katsuhiro Harada has blamed a South Korean video game ratings board for leaking confidential screenshots of Tekken 7: Fated Retribution. Pictures of alternative outfits for the game's characters were circulated around Korean websites (spotted by Avoiding The Puddle) prompting a statement from Harada.

"Before we export [a game], we have to submit the data to a review board that's connected to the South Korean government," Harada said on Twitter, as translated by Kotaku.

"However, every time--even thought it's confidential information--the review board leaks info to the media. This ratings board is the worst."

As Kotaku notes, the word Harada uses to describe the board has many meanings, but they're all less than flattering.

The leak was initially brought to Harada's attention when someone tweeted a picture of the game's character select screen to him and informed him it was being sent around in South Korea.

Although Harada has blamed the ratings board, there has not been any confirmation that it was indeed the source of the leak.

The Korean ratings board has previously leaked the Gravity Rush remaster for the PlayStation 4 and Limbo for Xbox One.

Location tests for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution are scheduled to begin in Japan soon. At Paris Games Week 2015, Harada appeared on stage and confirmed that Tekken 7: Fated Retribution will be released on PS4.

New characters are being introduced to distinguish it from the original arcade release of the game update. The console version will feature other new content not seen in the arcade version.

A Tekken 7 trailer released in December 2015 revealed Street Fighter's Akuma will also be in the game and have a prominent role in its story. Bandai Namco has said Akuma is likely the only crossover character for Tekken 7, as too many guest characters can "throw off" the game's world and setting.
