Tecmo announces Gallop Racer 2004

Tecmo announces that it will release the fourth title in its Gallop Racer horse racing series in North America in September.

Tecmo has announced that it plans to release Gallop Racer 2004 in North America in September this year. Currently in development exclusively for the PlayStation 2, the game will boast a number of improvements over its predecessors, including more realistic racing, new gameplay modes, an improved breeding system, an enhanced revolution mode, and more tracks and horses than ever before.

Assuming the role of one of 17 characters vying for the title of top jockey, players will find that the game's season mode is the most challenging to appear in the series to date. The game's 4,000-plus new horses and 42 tracks can be viewed from every conceivable camera angle once races get underway. Players will occasionally get to actively participate in other events such as competitions with rivals, negotiations with trainers, and the like. The breeding system in Gallop Racer 2004 will allow players to produce a maximum of eight new horses at any one time, and players will then have the option to either ride the horses themselves or to release them for use by other jockeys.

Gallop Racer 2004 is expected to retail for around $49.99, and Tecmo plans to sell the game for a limited time only in selected stores. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as we've had a chance to check out the trailer and playable demo that Tecmo is unveiling at E3.

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.
