Team 17 scored a solid reception for its latest remix of its classic annelid warfare franchise in July with the Xbox Live Arcade release of Worms 2: Armageddon. The stalwart independent studio has subsequently announced that it's at work on episodic installments in its classic top-down shooter Alien Breed, the first of which came out in December. However, Team 17 also has more Worms on the horizon.

Studio head Martyn Brown announced via the company's Twitter feed this week that a new 2D installment in the Worms franchise is under construction for the PC. Brown offered scant few details on what to expect from the game, saying only that it would be titled Worms Reloaded and that it is "coming soon" to Valve's online distribution portal Steam. The executive promised more details to follow shortly.

Analysts estimate that Worms 2: Armageddon was among the 10 most successful games to be released for Xbox Live Arcade in 2009. The game, which was based on the highly acclaimed Worms Armageddon, featured five all-new landscape scenarios built in the style of the original, as well as 130 variations of those base maps. An edition is currently in development for the PlayStation Network and PC.
