TDK Mediactive has today announced that it will publish Star Trek: Shattered Universe, a space shooter that was originally scheduled for release through Interplay at the end of 2001. The game, which is being developed at Starsphere Interactive, takes places shortly after the events of the Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country movie and sees the USS Excelsior, under the command of Captain Sulu and boasting its own complement of small one-man fighter craft, stranded in a dark, alternate universe.

Shattered Universe was to be Interplay's last Star Trek game when it lost the rights to the franchise to Activision. TDK is able to publish the game this summer because it has secured a deal with both Activision and Viacom Consumer Products.
