Bandai Namco's handheld game Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 was released on September 7 in Japan. Though lacking the Japanese drum peripheral, this funky rhythm game for Sony's PSP has sold steadily since its release and is still on the Media-Create's top 50 games list, where it currently ranks 32nd.

The game may get a further boost in sales with the Bandai Namco announcement on the official Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 Web site that a music download service is about to go live. The service is scheduled to start on October 12 and will let owners of the game download three new songs for free. These new songs are "Saturday Taiko Fever," "Youkai Douchuu Kiondo," and "Unagi no Tamashii Rock."
