Taika Waititi Says He's Heard Rumors Of Thor 5 With Chris Hemsworth

The Oscar-winning writer/director has a lot going on but probably will sit the next Thor, or any other Marvel movie, out.

At the end of Thor: Love and Thunder, it was promised to fans that "Thor will return", but that was a surprise to both director Taika Wakiti as well as star Chris Hemsworth, who has wielded the hammer for over a decade. Even Hemsworth is worried about overstaying his welcome as the character, but it appears Thor 5 is still happening.

Talking to Inverse, Waititi said that while he heard star Chris Hemsworth and Marvel are in talks about making a fifth Thor movie, Waititi "needed a break from that" and doubled down on his plans to sit the next installment out.

"It's a very draining process working on these films for two and a half years and nonstop," Waititi said, as the Oscar-winning writer-director explained his already full plate. He has the sports-comedy Next Goal Wins out in theaters now and still plans to adapt the anime classic Akira, as well as the Kazuo Ishiguro bestseller Klara and the Sun. In the midst of all that, there's still a Star Wars project somewhere.

This is the first word of Hemsworth having talks with the studio to reprise the role of the thunder god, which would be the 11th time for the actor across multiple projects in the MCU. He can soon be seen in the Netflix action movie Extraction 2.

As for Wakiti returning to Marvel, the director hasn't completely ruled that out. "It's just about when I would be able to fit that in," he added.
