Taika Waititi, the Oscar-winning director behind Thor: Ragnarok and JoJo Rabbit, is also working on a Star Wars movie. It's been some time since we've heard about it, so how's it coming along?

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Waititi suggested that the movie remains quite early in the development process. "I've got a really good idea for it," he said.

"It's just as with all films, it's this middle part. You're like, 'What's going to happen?’ And then you look at all of those films that are so great, you're like, 'Well, I guess they can't meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick.'"

Waititi is not working on his Star Wars movie currently due to the writers' strike. Instead, Waititi is taking vacations and following his wife, the musician Rita Ora, around on tour, he said.

Before this, Waititi said his Star Wars movie will have an element of sincerity to it, as many of his films do. He said of the movie in 2021, "I like to fool the viewer into thinking, 'Ha it's this' and then them going, 'Damn it, you made me feel something!'"

In April of this year, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy said Waititi's Star Wars movie is taking some time to come to fruition because he is writing the script himself.

"He doesn't really want to bring others into that process and I don't blame him. He has a very, very unique voice. So we want to protect that and that's what he's doing. But we're going to make that one day," Kennedy said.

While Waititi's Star Wars movie might not be here anytime soon, a new Star Wars film that brings back Daisy Ridley as Rey is coming up next. After that will come new Star Wars films from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold and The Mandalorian's Dave Filoni.
