A website announcing System Shock 3 has gone live with Boston-based OtherSide Entertainment attached to the project.

The website features a timer set to reveal the game in five days as of press time. A separate page, however, which appears to have gone live in error, features the logo System Shock 3.

Paul Neurath, the founder of the original System Shock creator Looking Glass Studios, is listed as the founder of OtherSide. Other key figures at OtherSide include Joe Fielder, a former GameSpot editor, whose portfolio includes games such as BioShock Infinite and Boom Blox.

Currently, no further details about the game are available.

On November 12, Night Dive Studios, the team behind the Enhanced Edition re-release of System Shock, revealed it has "acquired the full rights to the [System Shock] franchise" and is working on a full remake of the first game.

Additionally, Night Dive said it is discussing a brand new entry in the series, but may partner with another studio for this.

"To really do another game in that series is going to take resources and time and commitment that we don't have, and it's really not our core business," said chief executive Stephen Kick.

It is unclear whether Night Dive Studios is involved with, or has sanctioned, OtherSide Entertainment's System Shock 3 project.

OtherSide Entertainment is also currently working on a sequel to Ultima Underworld, following its successful Kickstarter campaign which generated $860,356 through crowdfunding.

Sweet, glad to see this made it out of EA/Copyright/Trademark limbo finally. Great IP and not a whole lot has been done with it. HOpefully the remake and this are awesome.

Man I've had dreams about SS3. I've sat and thought about how cool it could be.

I don't care how good it ends up being, all I have to say is there better be some space or zero g sequences or else I don't want it. And the original psionic amplifier design better return too. Plus with a new engine we can have amazing lighting and shadows and blood dripping off walls and shit, etc. Do itttttt.

Sounds too good to be true.

I'm a little worried if such small new studio has enough cash to make this worthwhile. I hope they can pull it off.

I'm thinking Alien Isolation aesthetics right now. It would be so sweet. I was actually thinking "i wish this was System Shock..." all the time when i played it lol.

Why remake the first game? SS2 was far superior.

Avatar image for ughz

@domiddian: Because SS1 is older and more in need of a remake. SS2 is still entirely playable today, whether the graphics are super HL1 dated or not. I'm okay with an SS2 remake if they literally change nothing and make it in the cryengine or ue4.

@domiddian: I've actually always liked the first one better.

@Mogan: They're both great games so yeah, I get that. But I didn't have a PC back in '94 (got my first PC in '97) so SS2 was the first one I played. Going back to SS1 after SS2 was a little underwhelming for me.

Remake SS2 also.

Please don't rerecord SHODAN's voice. Just use the original samples. They were perfect enough.

they are only after ur money with this ... I realy would have to Need to go way out of my way to see any hope for a good game here, or anything worth wearing the name system.shock

can u remember in the first Bioshock, at the end, when u had to make this troubleing decision about becoming a Big Daddy and alter yourself for ever in order to destroy the main villian or to try 'the other possible endings' based on ur caracter build?

no, ofc u dont remmeber, because it wasnt even in the game anymore when it was released ...

its always the same problem, u simply cant know what u dont know ...

@lordshifu: What, gtfo.'

Go Google System Shock. It's arguably the most influential game ever made. Along with HL, Deus Ex, and Thief, and Doom of course.

Avatar image for Mogan

@lordshifu: I guess, if you're not a PC gamer, and didn't pay very much attention when Bioshock was coming out, you might not have heard of the System Shock series. But they're a couple of real classic PC games.

Let's cross our fingers so they don't pull off some bullshit like releasing it as an episodic series.

This may very well be the best news about a coming game I've heard all year. Years. I've waited years for a sequel. Deus Ex has been a fantastic franchise, my absolute favorite. The BioShock franchise has been a great successor. But nothing tops the grandaddy. This is simply awesome.

Avatar image for Mogan

@dexda: GoG.com, man. Less than $20 for both, and they've been rejiggered to work on modern systems.

Avatar image for deactivated-58183aaaa31d8

@Mogan: I find it hard getting into older games. Many of them while they were good in their day haven't aged well. Not for experiencing first hand again now anyway.

I've always wanted to play and appreciate older games but have never been able to in most cases.

There are always little game design choices that only nostaliga can help you ignore. Crap like dice-roll action combat is just a no go for me.

FPS aren't too bad. Played Half Life and Red Faction quite a lot. Even the original DOOM is decent today.

Fallout 1 and 2 though while I can see that they are very well crafted games I just can't enjoy the fighting. "OMG I NEED to hit this one good otherwise I'm going to die." "Nope sorry chance says you are dead.". No skill involved at all.

Morrowind, swinging your sword missing enemies that are right in front of you until you get your sword skills up to a high level. Just tedious.

Diablo I the see through walls give me a massive migraine.

@RogerioFM: I mean it's a sequel, hope it's not a reboot and that they weren't just trolling by calling it SS3.
