Soon you can take Salt and Sanctuary with you wherever you go on Nintendo Switch. Ska Studios in partnership with porting house BlitWorks has announced that it's coming to Switch on August 2. The Souls-like will be available for $18 on the eShop. A separate retail version called Salt and Sanctuary: Drowned Tome Edition will follow this holiday season.

Salt and Sanctuary took the brutal-but-fair difficult boss battles of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls games and transferred it to a 2D plane, with side-scrolling action instead. GameSpot's review noted its tense combat, world-building, and rich mysteries, though some boss patterns were unpredictably frustrating.

Now Playing: Quick Look: Salt and Sanctuary

"The two of us wanted to create a Soulslike game that we wanted to play, and finding that so many others who wanted it too warmed our dark little hearts," said co-creators Michelle and James Silva in the announcement. "Bringing Salt and Sanctuary to the Nintendo Switch means more people who like dismal, satisfying games can play our very dismal, satisfying game."

Dismal and satisfying is Ska's stock in trade, having developed a distinct style with games like The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, its sequel Vampire Smile, and Charlie Murder.
