Surprise PS4/Xbox One Versions of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Arrive Today

2012's Transformers game comes with three DLC packs.

Activision has re-released another of its last-generation games for PS4 and Xbox One with little notice. This time around, it's Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

Fall of Cybertron launches today for both platforms with single-player and online multiplayer. It's available now on the Xbox Store for $50 and should be available on PSN later today.

The game comes with three DLC packs, including the Massive Fury Pack, Dinobot Destructor Pack, and Multiplayer Havoc Pack. There's no word on any other additions, changes, or improvements. This release comes one day after a surprise launch in Australia, which was preceded by no official announcement.

It should be noted that Activision also recently launched updated versions of the two Marvel Ultimate Alliance games (also with little advance notice). Despite the relatively high prices ($40 each or $60 in a bundle), those games didn't feature major graphical improvements, and suffered from a number of issues, including missing DLC, at launch.

Also of note is the fact that this port was handled by FunLabs, the studio that previously brought Activision's Prototype games to PS4 and Xbox One (which also weren't announced ahead of time). A technical analysis at launch showed them to be middling ports, with Prototype 2 actually running more poorly on Xbox One than on Xbox 360.

There's no word yet on whether Fall of Cybertron is experiencing any issues of its own, but we'll report back with details if that proves to be the case.

The High Moon Studios-developed Fall of Cybertron was originally released for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in 2012 as a sequel to 2010's War for Cybertron. You can read GameSpot's review here.
