A new event is now underway in Pokemon Go. Ahead of this weekend's Community Day, Niantic has kicked off a surprise event that revolves around fossil Pokemon.

For a limited time, 7 km eggs will exclusively hatch into fossil Pokemon such as Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Lileep, Anorith, Cranidos, Shieldon, Tirtouga, and Archen. These Pokemon will no longer hatch from other eggs, so the only way to obtain them will be from 7 km ones. Additionally, Riolu--the pre-evolved form of Lucario--will now hatch from 10 km eggs.

Niantic has not yet revealed how long this fossil Pokemon event will run, but you can read more about it on the official Pokemon Go website.

There are still two big events lined up for Pokemon Go before February ends, including the aforementioned Community Day. That takes place this Saturday, February 22. The feature Pokemon this time is Rhyhorn; not only will you have your first chance to catch a Shiny Rhyhorn during the event, you'll be able to get a Rhyperior with Rock Wrecker if you can evolve it up to two hours after the Community Day ends.

Then, starting February 25, Niantic will host Pokemon Go's Pokemon Day event. To coincide with the Netflix release of the Pokemon movie Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, Armored Mewtwo will return to five-star Raids, and you'll have your first chance to catch Clone Pokemon in the game. The Pokemon Day event runs until March 2.

The same day the Pokemon Day event begins, the Legendary Tornadus will leave Raid Battles, making this your last chance to catch one. You also only have a few days left to complete February's Field Research tasks and earn an encounter with this month's Research Breakthrough reward: Woobat.
