Surprise Planetary Annihilation Standalone Expansion Revealed, Released Today

Giant new units, an improved tutorial and single-player mode, and more.

Uber Entertainment today made a surprise announcement: Planetary Annihilation: Titans is a new, standalone expansion for Planetary Annihilation, and it's now available on PC.

Titans builds on the foundation of Planetary Annihilation. This is still a large-scale real-time strategy game that takes place across multiple planets (which can, on occasion, be destroyed with huge lasers or asteroids that you or an enemy strap engines to). Titans' primary new feature is its namesake: new Titan-class units that are much larger than anything found in PA.

Titans aren't the only addition, though; there are also other new units, multi-level terrain, an improved tutorial, and an enhanced single-player Galactic War mode.

As a standalone expansion, this is a game you can pick up and play without owning Planetary Annihilation. It costs $40 on Steam, but those who already own PA can pick it up for 66 percent off. Even better, those who supported PA through its original Kickstarter campaign back in 2012 get Titans for free.

If you're a backer with your Steam account linked to your PlayFab account, you should already see it in your library. Alternatively, a Kickstarter update says you can find a key in your PlayFab account that lets you play the game through its dedicated launcher.

Among Uber's staff are individuals who worked on classic RTS Total Annihilation, hence the influence on PA. Uber is also the developer of Monday Night Combat and the upcoming Wayward Sky.

And in the process, pissing off a whole lot of people who bought the original game.

Complete bull**** that those of us that got it through Steam early access get completely and utterly ****ed in the ass by this. They can take Titans and shove it up their ass in all honesty.

Is the singleplayer skirmish gameplay offline? I'd like to know before adding this to my wishlist and then buying it when it's on sale for dirt cheap. Essentially what we are getting here is a retooled, older game that was finally finished but not worth $40. I mean it would be if the entire game was new in concept and graphics but like this? Nope.

tried it a few times but i could never get enough metal and the lack of commander upgrades or having you and an opponent starting on the same planet/moon made all the space stuff pointless

@jessie82: You know, you can start somewhere else other than the same planet as your opponent, right?

I don't know the status of the original game (though, from the comments below, it seems they half-assed it), but I do wish more Kickstarters would follow this routine - I'm tired of seeing Kickstarter games that get picked up by publishers AFTER already being funded (looking at you Team17) or release on Early Access for profits BEFORE allowing their original backers access.

Showing appreciation towards your original supporters is a good move (though, so is finishing your product). Never checked out PA, so I can't comment any further on that.

I really wish I liked that game, I forced myself to like it, but in the end, it was just bad, plus the spheric view gives me headaches... I wish they would just make a new Supreme commander, this time with a good multiplayer lobby, the first one was so awful, I blame it as the single reason why that game failed because otherwise, it was a stellar RTS.

@jack00: You think supreme commander 1 was worse than 2?
