Supreme Commander 2 deploys in March

Square Enix and Gas Powered Games' massive-scale RTS arrives on PCs March 2, Xbox 360 version drops two weeks later.

Before Square Enix firmly stepped into Western markets with its acquisition of UK publisher Eidos in April, the publisher began dabbling in projects outside its tried-and-true role-playing game niche. One such project was Gas Powered Games' massive-scale real-time strategy game Supreme Commander 2, which Square Enix said it would be publishing last December.

SupCom 2 is going for the same sense of scale.
SupCom 2 is going for the same sense of scale.

Today, Square Enix mapped out a firm release date for Supreme Commander 2, saying the game will arrive in North America for the PC on March 2. The Xbox 360 edition will follow two weeks later on March 16. Yesterday, the publisher announced a spring 2010 ship date for the game in Europe.

Supreme Commander 2 picks up 25 years after the events depicted in 2007's highly acclaimed PC original. (The 360 version, developed by Hellbent Games, received a lackluster reception upon its launch more than a year later.) Players can assume command of three separate factions, each with its own special and experimental war-waging units. The game's single-player campaign features more than 18 missions. Multiplayer will also feature prominently in Supreme Commander 2, as the PC edition accommodates play for up to eight and the Xbox 360 version handles up to four gamers.

I hope the the graphic are just as good as SC Aliance or if not better. That is what I like is the graphics and how detailed each unit is. Also I play solo so I pause the game and am able to zoom in and take a better look at them.

I just hope that the system specs this game will need wont be like SC 1 or SC aliance both of them crawl on mine and I have everything on low graphic then again it could be just mine but anyways you get the idea. So I'm hopping that this game will be able to play smooth on my pc even if it needs to be on low settings. I can barly get through like on mission as it is on SC aliance but non the less I enjoy seeing the experimental units in action and the carry alls. All of it just looks great to me.

This game looks good, but I have yet to play the original SupCom. I tried getting into RTS's with WiC but failed to make good in that one. I'm hoping with SupCom I'll really get into it and learn how to play Strategy. I played Starcraft back several years ago, and that was fun, however what I'm interested in is the scale of this series. I'm interested to see how people end up liking SupCom 2.

As much as I love Supreme Commander, and I do intend on buying Supreme Commander 2, Darklight86 is completely correct. Forged Alliance was thrown out there and left the game to rot with even worse performance optimization. We complained, we made our issues known, and nothing was fixed.

Lets hope its well optimised this time. The first one could only be maxed out by a computer that was only affordable by the five Kings and Queens of Europe.

Won't be buying this. Maybe if they supported Forged Alliance and made it play smoothly I would be interested, (and no its not my computer, its crappy/lazy vision rings).

Problem I had with supreme commander was it always came down to who can upgrade faster. Hopefully the system gets upgraded since it really got boring to just sit back and upgrade and defend then launch the best units in game and win.

I think the biggest problem is if you played it on PC and then on 360, you realize how much the 360 version really does suck compared to the PC version. SupCom was great and Forge Alliance was amazing. Hope the story and gameplay continues to improve with SupCom 2

Yeah, I got SupCom on the 360 for $10 wen Best Buy had their $10 game sale and I have to admit this game is a gem. Even on the 360. ONce you download it to your harddrive it takes out all the problems people were complaining about. If you see me XBL i'm still playing this game.

@Caml10 Gas Powered Games jumps around a lot. SupCom 1 was THQ, then they did Demigod with Stardock, and Space Siege with Sega. They aren't owned by or tied to any one publisher, so they get deals on a per-game basis.

My computer barely handles Unreal tournament 2004. Looks like I'll have to get it for the 360. Which is fine with me, I find all the console hate pretty funny. Everyone claims it was horrible, but it only SOLD horrible because so many swat it down. In reality it looked fine, played surprisingly good. I love it when people try to say it had terrible controls. The only people who had a hard time controlling it were two-year olds with downs. Seriously, I had the controls down in about 5 min.

If they are making a 360 version, I can almost guarantee the PC version will suffer from it's shortcomings since the 360 will actually be target development specs I'm sure. The original was made purely for the PC, so RAM size limitations which could effect PC performance (but could be fixed with a RAM upgrade) were quite prevelant in the 360 version. Ulgh, I still hope the PC version was the lead build though.

This brings me to tears, the only rts that truly utilize multiple armies and had to micro manage a base that was awesome. I was so ecstatic about the first one that I bought a second monitor just so that I can do the dual screen mode. Nothing quite as execrating as creating a 150 manned army.

Supreme COmmander one is amazing! I love it. With Enix behind this one, I can only imagine this one being better. Even still, don't buy it for the 360. RTS are just not meant for a console.

Is it going to be a primary game made for PC, or yet again the PC version is going to be another version of disappointing form of console ports?

I might pick this one up, I'm really interested in it. For PC, of course. Okay, I'm really looking forward to it. I can't wait till release. I will have to see how others receive it first, though.

"More than 18 missions"? What does THAT mean? The skirmish was always the only real part of the game worth playing, but I'm still curious why they can't throw down with a real number.
