Margot Kidder, the actress best known for playing the fast-talking Lois Lane in the 1978 film Superman and its sequels, has passed away at age 69. She's survived by her daughter.

TMZ reports that an unknown person called police to report that she was unconscious in her home. Police responded to the call to find her dead. The cause is unknown. The Livingston, MT Police Chief says her death is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.

Kidder was helped define the on-screen persona of the classic comic book character Lois Lane, Superman's long-time love interest. Her portrayal was reminiscent of streetwise sidekick characters from screwball comedies like His Girl Friday. She continued to take smaller roles in TV, movies, and stage performances through this year. Two more of her roles have yet to be released. She was also an advocate for mental health after a public battle with bipolar disorder.
