DC Comics has announced that in an issue releasing November 9, Superman Jon Kent will come out as bisexual. The news was announced in an official blog post on DC Comics's website.

"I've always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I'm very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea," said writer Tom Taylor. "Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics."

The issue will explore a burgeoning romantic relationship with Jon Kent and reporter Jay Nakamura--a pairing that echoes Clark's relationship with reporter Lois Lane. Recognizing that Superman has "mentally and physically burn[ed] out from trying to save everyone," Nakamura steps in to be a source of support for the superhero, and given the information announced here, clearly things go beyond just a momentary offer of emotional support--the release describes their pairing as "sav[ing] Superman."

This issue, #5, is part of the Superman: Son of Kal-El series, which takes place in the main continuity of the DC Multiverse. This relaunched Superman series, featuring the creative team of Injustice: Gods Among Us and Suicide Squad writer Tom Taylor and artist John Timms, first arrived in July 2021.

Earlier this year it was also announced that Ta-Nehisi Coates will be writing the next Superman movie, which JJ Abrams will produce. Coates is reportedly writing an origin story that will see Kal-El arrive on Earth from Krypton.
