Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: New King K. Rool And Chrom Gameplay Videos

Nintendo kicked off its Gamescom 2018 reveals with two new gameplay clips of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the upcoming Nintendo Switch installment of the beloved fighting series. The company shared two full matches recorded by the development team, both of which feature a couple of the new fighters announced during this month's Smash-themed Nintendo Direct.

The first clip, which you can watch above, shows a one-on-one Stock battle between returning fighter Snake and newcomer King K. Rool, appropriately set on the Kongo Falls stage from Super Smash Bros. Melee. The video gives fans a closer look at the villainous croc's signature moves; you can see him firing a large cannonball from his blunderbuss and throwing his crown like a boomerang. The battle ends with King K. Rool's Final Smash, which has him firing a devastating beam from his floating fortress to score the last knockout.

The second match, embedded below, is a two-on-two bout showing off Fire Emblem heroes Lucina and Chrom against Metroid villains Ridley and Dark Samus. As revealed during the Smash Direct, Chrom and Dark Samus are both Echo Fighters--clones of other characters already on the roster. Dark Samus is largely similar to Samus, albeit with floatier movement, while Chrom is based primarily on Roy, who was originally a modified version of Marth.

The second match also provides another look at Ultimate's new Stage Morph feature. When toggled on, it causes one stage to transform into another in the middle of a battle. In the above video, the match begins on the Fire Emblem stage Arena Ferox before transitioning to Brinstar. In the final game, players will be able to select which two stages they want to battle on when Stage Morph is enabled.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches for Switch on December 7. The game features the largest selection of fighters and stages in the series' history, with more than 70 announced fighters and 103 different stages.
