Now Playing: GS News Update: New Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo Switch Bundle Revealed

Super Mario Odyssey

Since launch, we haven't seen much in the way of Switch bundles--at least in terms official ones from Nintendo. That will soon change, as Nintendo has revealed it will package the system with its biggest release of the fall, Super Mario Odyssey.

Odyssey's Switch bundle was revealed during today's Nintendo Direct. As expected, a good portion of time was dedicated to showcasing the game and its Amiibo figures, as well as a new Photo mode. We also got a look at the bundle, which comes with the system, game, red Joy-Cons, and a Switch carrying case. The case features a minimalist look that features map- or globe-like markings on it. The bundle will be available alongside the release of Odyssey on October 27. In the US, it will be priced at $380.

Yeah, I'm not buying a full-price bundle. That kind of negates the main selling point of bundles. I'll wait and see what deals are out there for Black Friday. Of course, my backlog of games is long enough that I could just wait until next year (I'm still playing Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 games).

Maybe they'll have actually implemented the ability to transfer saves by then and I won't have to redo all of the BotW stuff I did on my brother's Switch last weekend.

For the people wanting a netflix, or youtube app for the switch. Lets be honest with ourselves, and just admit that it probably won't happen. Nintendo is making us use our phones for online support, they probably think we will just use them for netflix and youtube as well. I don't think the apps will come anytime soon or at all.

Hey, @nurnberg, I know math is tricky with big numbers, but let me help you out:

Nintendo Switch w/2 Joy-Con: MSRP $299

Super Mario Odyssey: MSRP $59.99

Switch Carrying Case: MSRP 19.99 *(used Nintnedo BotW case as reference)

Let me know if you need any more assistance with advanced mathematics.

@et29: That's the point! A bundle is supposed to be a good deal and you are supposed to save money with them (normally).

This bundle is garbage! What is the point? It's 80$ more because it has one game in it. It should have been the normal price.

You would expect news like this from a company that could actually have plenty of their systems already on store shelves.

Nice I'm getting this. I was thinking $350 but $380 ain't bad.

Very naiz indeed. Will be getting this bundle. Wanted to get the switch just for this game mainly. I will wait till it is actually out tho. Wont be making the same mistake as i did with botw.

I'll probably buy this BUT..... remember the days when ALMOST ALL console bundles from previous generations were priced the same as their standard tier model AND STILL included the game IN A PHYSICAL COPY FORM at no extra cost???

This bundle should be $300. Not $380.

@PSYCHOV3N0M: Your entire post is negated by its first 4 words.

Avatar image for PSYCHOV3N0M

@boardsport311: Not even in the slightest lol. My point still stands.

Avatar image for boardsport311

@PSYCHOV3N0M: "This product is 'overpriced', buuuuut I'm going to buy it anyway."

Really shouldn't require further explanation.

Avatar image for Red_hot_smasher

@PSYCHOV3N0M: Not entirely sure what the point of the bundle is given that it costs the same as buying a Switch and Mario Odyssey separately (if I remember the US prices correctly) and the switch isn't even Odyssey themed by the looks of it, just comes with matching red Joycons instead of mismatching neon ones or gray ones like the standalone Switch packs, just comes with a carrying case with the Odyssey logo. They might as well just have sold the carrying case separately for 10 bucks and not bothered with the bundle.

Pre order date anyone?

Sorry, but that Nintendo Direct was pretty disappointing for me. I would've been more interested if I heard these kind of announcements:

- More info on the Metroid Switch game

- Announcement of a proper Pokemon game for the Switch

- Nintendo Switch OS updates (perhaps a proper web browser,

or Netflix /YouTube apps)

- Physical release for Sonic Mania on the Switch

- Announcement of a proper voice chat system built into the Switch OS

And to top it all off, the presentation was gimmicky and ridiculous. The way they talk to the audience is like, the way you would talk to a 3 year old. I'm not really sure how to explain it, but it's like they talk to us as if we're stupid, and they know they have us under their complete control.

Now, this isn't to say all of it was 100% bad. I found this stuff pretty neat:

- Doom and Wolfenstein 2 announcements

- Rocket League

- Super Mario Odyssey console bundle

- Sonic Forces (although that was like 3 seconds long and didn't show off anything we didn't already know xD)

But yeah.. That's my voicing on it. Pretty lame presentation for me.

@lodmot347: "- Physical release for Sonic Mania on the Switch"

Define physical release. You mean the cartridge? I got Sonic Mania collector's edition on PS4 which is technically a physical release but the game came in the form of a digital code.

Avatar image for girlusocrazy

@PSYCHOV3N0M: Hopefully the game code is on physical media. I'll be buying that since Limited Run isn't doing Sonic Mania :(

Avatar image for PSYCHOV3N0M

@girlusocrazy: Has that been confirmed that Limited Run aren't making physical copies of Sonic Mania?

Avatar image for girlusocrazy

@PSYCHOV3N0M: Yes, they talked with SEGA, who decided if they wanted to make a physical version they'd just do it themselves
