Nintendo is bringing Super Mario 3D World to Switch next month. This version of the Wii U game comes packaged with a brand-new component called Bowser's Fury, and now Nintendo has shared a few more details on how your journey in this new mode will unfold.

Bowser's Fury is a self-contained mini adventure set in an open-ended level called Lake Lapcat. Here, Mario must team up with Bowser Jr. (who can be controlled by a second player in co-op) and explore the various islands that make up the level, collecting new items called Cat Shines.

Now Playing: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury - A Bigger Badder Bowser Trailer

Complicated this journey is Bowser, who--as we saw in the mode's first trailer--is overtaken with rage and grows to gargantuan proportions. Bowser will periodically appear as you explore, raining down meteors and breathing screen-filling streams of fire at Mario.

According to Nintendo UK's website, Bowser's arrival will be heralded by a change in the weather; once the sunshine disappears and a storm sets in, Bower will appear in his new Fury form. If you've collected five Cat Shines, however, you'll be able to snag the Giga Bell, which will transform Mario into a supersized cat form and let him battle Bowser. Defeat the Koopa to seal him away again temporarily and unlock more islands to explore.

While Bowser's Fury is the big new addition in this package, the base game has gotten some updates as well in the move to Switch. Now Super Mario 3D World supports online play, letting you team up with other players over the internet. There's also a new photo mode, and stamps you collect can be used to decorate the environment.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury launches for Switch on February 12. The game only takes up 2.9 GB and supports various Amiibo figures. You can read more in our Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury preorder guide.
