Suicide Squad Star Signs Deal to Make Harley Quinn Movie
A standalone DC movie featuring Suicide Squad's psychotic psychiatrist Harley Quinn has been rumoured for several months, but the huge success of that film has made it even more likely. It has been reported that a production deal with star Margot Robbie includes a Harley film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress has signed a first-look deal with Warner, meaning that the studio will have the first option to make any projects that her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, develops there. The site states that a Harley Quinn movie has already been set up, and the deal will ensure Robbie's role as a producer as well as star.
In May, it was reported that the movie could feature a variety of DC female heroes and villains, including Batgirl, the Birds of Prey, Poison Ivy, and Katana. At the time, a source told THR: "When [Robbie] got the part for [Suicide Squad], she dove deep into the comics to learn as much as possible about the character.
"In the process, she fell for DC's female characters. She brought on the writer to help develop the project and brought it to Warners, which snapped it up."
Despite mixed reviews, Suicide Squad has to date made more than $700 million worldwide. It currently stands as the eighth biggest film of the year.
