Not now, but soon.

[Update 2: Capcom has issued an apology, after determining that the Street Fighter 5 Beta problems will be best resolved by switching the servers off for an extended period. It also said it will inform players of the "date" when the servers switch back on, implying that the beta issues may not be resolved in a matter of hours.

"We apologise for the ongoing issues that users have been experiencing with the Street Fighter 5 beta test. In order to allow us to fix the issues as quickly as possible, we are going to initiate a period of extended maintenance, during which time the beta will be unavailable to all users.

"We will let you know the date on which the closed beta test will re-open once all problems have been fixed. We sincerely apologise for having to bring this unfortunate news to you. Thank you for your patience. Please stay tuned for further updates." Update Ends.]

[Update 1: Capcom has said the servers are once again live, adding that it will continue to investigate connectivity issues. However, fans are still reporting connection problems. Update ends]

Original story: Capcom has deactivated its servers connecting players to the Street Fighter V Beta on PlayStation 4, little more than an hour after the game build first went live.

In a rapid response to a growing number of reports from users explaining they could not access the beta build, Capcom took test servers down and notified fans across social media.

At the time of going to press, the game is inaccessible, though Capcom expects the matter will be resolved very soon.

The Street Fighter V Beta, which allows players to access an early test build of the game, launched around 6pm Pacific on Thursday (2am Friday UK time). Thirty minutes into the test, the publisher wrote on Twitter that it was "aware that users are having issues logging in."

Then, about an hour later, Capcom said it was taking the beta offline so that it could deploy crucial fixes to the netcode.

After several hours of work on the game, with Capcom regularly updating its community of the progress it was making, the training mode portion of the beta had been fixed. However, matchmaking problems remain unresolved, for now.

The Street Fighter V beta initially has a total of four characters to select; Ryu, Chun-Li, M Bison, and Nash. Capcom has said that, by Saturday, it will have added Cammy and Birdie into the beta's roster.

PlayStation 4 owners are not able to invite friends to access the game using SharePlay, nor are players with copies of the beta allowed to invite each other to a match. Capcom has also said the build does not include local versus mode because the "primary purpose of the beta is to test the online functionality."

The test runs through to July 28, and will be followed by a PS4 and PC beta this fall, and a third beta at some future date.

I don't have a beta code, sadly, but i pray they'll fix it soon. :)

How sad is this. A basically 2D game that only requires a 2 player connection. Yeah I know that is what a beta is for and good on them for having the beta. Point is, why are you penny pinching on servers in this age of online gaming?

Avatar image for Pensato

@keal: Can you, 100% show proof that the issues are based on "penny pinching" and not something that's more realistically the issue?

Also, server tech advances along with everything else, which means servers are not cheaper to run in this age of online gaming.

@Pensato: Can you 100% show proof that it isn't? Yeah don't be stupid.

It all depends on what you pay for. I buy a cheap server that could easily host something like minecraft but that same server couldn't host a 64 player Battlefield map. What do you think servers are? You know they are hardware, similar to a computer, right? Do you think they all magically get upgraded to the latest technology every time something new comes out? No. So what they are doing is trying to save money by only renting/buying servers that are just barely good enough to run their game. If they would have spent just a little more money, IE not penny pinched, they could have gotten servers that could easily handle it.

This game doesn't seem like a huge upgrade from SF 4. Can anyone on the beta confirm what make SF 5 so much better?

Glad this is all being ironed out now. Can't wait for the game to come out.

The flaw in their plan is the fact that people can get a beta code from Amazon without paying a dime. The amount of traffic for this beta may not actually be demonstrative of what they'll see when the game actually releases, since 90% of this seems to be people who grabbed a free code just for the sake of trying something out for the weekend rather than people who pre-ordered with the full intention of actually spending money on the game next year.

@syztem: Added traffic would only cause a small issue that could be fixed in a day or less, for them to do this there must be a deeper technical issue at play.

@syztem: ^^ I think this somewhat true. I don't agree with the 90% number but I think there's a fairly nice chunk of players from Amazon causing traffic that wouldn't have been there.

While this is really unfortunate, it's so much better to find out now than on release day!

I know its some angry ppl out there because of this. Before tell me anytime and especially its just a beta and all that mess. You have to realize not everyone goes to GameStop or Amazon to purchase games so you can't always get a refund and stuff let alone in a mother country. You may have some that bought the digital off of pan and won't get that money back. This was bad on there end at Capcom whether its a beta or not and I've played a lot they mostly work online. You expect to see glitches and crazy lag but at least you could play. I hope they do better for their sake. They are already on less that good terms with fans.

Avatar image for leviathanwing

@Skyte777: well its a beta so everything else you said in criticism doesnt make sense... you dont have to buy this game it costs you no time at all but to download it so.... i take it you have no idea what a 'public beta' is now do you?

Avatar image for Skyte777
Skyte777

@leviathanwing: I know what a freaking beta is. Obviously you don't. This isn't a public beta because you have to preorder the game. Its more closed/ control because you dont get in unless like i said by preordering. What I was saying is basically what some of the ppl on this are trying to tell others. Everybody didn't go to GameStop or Amazon. Even then in some countries they have different policies and protocols. Like over here you can't get a refund if you bought it from PSN and at full price. Everyone don't have the same options as others do. It may just be a beta but ppl were expecting to play and preordered the game for that chance.

*shaking my head at idiots that are upset and expect a beta 8 months ahead of the games release is supposed to function the same as the actual retail release. Its a beta. They even stressed that this was to stress test servers and the load of every nut out there trying to log on all on the same and first night clearly it over took they hype this game has.

Avatar image for deactivated-5a1d4b615a3a3

@Meta33: Clearly this isn't a beta, it's an alpha masquerading as a beta. Beta's should only occur in the final stages of development

At least they are trying to fixs it now instead of after launching the game.

Should have used Sonys servers instead :-)
Joke aside, people who are betatesting should expect hickups.

They never did get matchmaking or connectivity issues resolved with SF4. Looks like SF5 will be just as bad if not worse.

Then you're an idiot, it's a Capcom issue.

Avatar image for Furwings

@troopah: Exactly. Same reason as why the Gotham's Greatest feature doesn't work and never has worked in Arkham Knight on PS4...even though it was the lead development platform for the game. Yet it works seamlessly on the Xbox One version. Go figure...

Tell me again about how much sharper the PS4 version looks in 1080p compared to 900p on XB1 again...
