Now Playing: Street Fighter V - Kolin Reveal Trailer

Capcom Fighters Network, the service underpinning Street Fighter 5's online component, will see some changes as part of an effort to improve the overall experience.

The list of tweaks and changes were detailed on the Capcom Unity website, and will be available for PC players to beta test on March 28 at 1 PM PST/8 PM GMT until April 3 at 12 PM PST/8 PM GMT. The beta client will be available to Steam users and "completely free to play for both current and new players."

"Since this beta is to test our new online infrastructure, it will only feature Online Modes," Capcom explained. "The beta is entirely separate from the base PC client but players’ current CFN username, rank, standing and other details will carry over to the beta client.

"For new players, they will be able to download the PC client for free and set up a new CFN profile to play for the duration of the test. All data recorded during the beta is for testing purposes only and once the beta has concluded, all replays, Fight Money earned, progress and player data will be deleted. To encourage players to participate in the beta test, all released characters, including Kolin will be unlocked for play."

Those that participate in the beta will also get an opportunity to trial some of the balance adjustments being made to Street Fighter 5 for its second season of content. Capcom has said once this beta period has finished, it will "make further adjustments to optimise the new CFN and will make its full release on both PS4 and PC shortly after."

Here's the list of changes coming to CFN, as detailed by Capcom.

  • Rage Quit Penalty System: Back in December, we implemented an update to the Rage Quit System which displayed a special Player Profile Icon for the worst offenders and the most honorable players. These icons are working correctly now and matchmaking logic now takes into account your online behavior and frequent disconnectors will be matched with similar opponents.
  • Ranked and Casual Match Loading Times: We understand many players were not happy with the load times when entering online matches. There will now be a shorter transition when going into a Ranked or Casual Match.
  • Battle Lounge Country Flags: Country flags should now properly load in Battle Lounges, allowing players to locate competition in their region.
  • Training Mode – User Settings Saved: Training Mode settings are now saved and will carry over to the next time the mode is accessed.
  • Matchmaking Improvements: It should now take less time to find an opponent in online matches. We’ve also added logic which avoids frequently being matched with the same opponent repeatedly.
  • Fighter Profile Stats: More detailed stats will be tracked and presented on your Fighter Profile.
  • Country/League Based Rankings: Players will now be able to filter leaderboards based on Country or League.
  • Friend Management System: In addition to adding a player to your Favorites, you can now add Friends and follow them on CFN. You can now also Blacklist players.
  • Interactive Timeline: On the CFN home menu, a live feed of your Friends’ activities is presented on an interactive Timeline. Using the Timeline, you can immediately add a recent match to your Replay List, view a Fighter Profile, manage your Friends, and adjust Timeline display settings.
  • In-Game Announcer Voice: The in-game announcer will give you stats on both you and your opponent using data pulled from the server.

"We understand that Street Fighter 5’s server performance has been a less than optimal experience for many of our players," reads a statement posted alongside the CFN changes announcement. "The improved CFN experience is the result of rebuilding it from the ground up to address the most pressing issues that will ultimately result in a better online experience.

"The new CFN server updates mark a new beginning for playing SF5 online and we encourage our players to participate in the PC Beta Test to see what improvements we have in store."

The last major content release for Street Fighter 5 was the introduction of Kolin, a fighter that uses the power of ice to summon "deadly icicles" and "frigid blasts." She also uses the Russian martial art of Systema, which is all about using an opponent's momentum against them. You can see more of Kolin here.

Well, I for one support SFV and have from day one! Yeah it was seriously lacking in the content department but issues have been and are still being resolved!

Despite releasing an uncomplete game, capcom managed to fix SFV and make it one of the best fighting games in the market.

IMO SF and Monster Hunter are now the only games done right by capcom.

A beta for a fighting game for PC. How many people actually play it on there? And is there cross play between PC and PS4?

Where is the arcade mode? How about just adding in a fighting game staple that been around since day one.

@ciphfer: Story mode if you want an end boss, endless mode if you just want to keep fighting AI

What is it that you miss exactly, the insanely cheap boss at the end or the corny endings? I admit the corny endings were fun but the other story modes in this game blow them out of the water, I love it personally

@girlusocrazy: Story mode ain't arcade mode. Not even close. And Survival mode is a joke. What am I missing? Unfortunately what I paid for.

@nknow1966: Imho arcade mode is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to what makes a fighting game fun

If you want it that bad use the arcade mode mod on the PC ver or just wait

“The team is looking into adding an Arcade Mode and we’ll have more information to share soon,” a Capcom representative told Forbes via email. According to the same representative, Capcom is also planning to introduce difficulty sliders into the existing Character Stories mode."

@girlusocrazy: Bottom of the barrel for what makes the game fun... FOR YOU. And Capcom made that statement to forbes a year ago man. A whole goddamn year. Nothing better than paying full price for a game, and not have the expected features after an entire year. With no official announcement about when if EVER it will be released. Just some E-mail about "consideration" of an Arcade mode. At this point seriously who gives a shit? I'll never buy another Capcom game.

@nknow1966: That's a bit redundant since I did write IMHO, and yep I guess it isn't a priority, not enough people are demanding it. Agreed I don't think anyone gives a shit about arcade mode.

Uh so you won't buy RE7 because you think SFV really needs an arcade mode? lol ok very clear message

@girlusocrazy: Nope. I won't buy RE7 because I won't support a company that ships half assed incomplete games to market at full price. And I don't give a shit about the entire game, Arcade mode or not. I moved on after it was clear that Capcom wasn't going to do a damn thing about the issue. And by the way plenty of people wanted Arcade mode. Plenty of people still want it. And plenty of people gave up on the game because of lack of content. Hey I guess I can go play survival mode... which randomly disconnects with no save points forcing you to start all over again. It's a shit game. A shit game that cost 60 dollars.

For rage quiters that solution is not enough. They should give me double the fight money when someone ragequit plus take away fight money to the quitter.

I stop playing because of rage quitters so what they are doing is not enough for me to come back.

Glad Capcom hasn't stopped working on the game in spite of its low sales. Waiting for the new patch to drop in April before I dive in again. Due for a change of main.

Since MK9, fighting games have increased in popularity in the community. NetherRealm raised the bar, wether you learn from others or your own mistakes, this is what pushes other developers to be better. However, I have seen very little improvements from others developers in this genre. I'm glad NetherRealm has implemented two fighting title in rotation, hope they atleast learn from others but mostly themselves. Street Fighter is decent but only after a year or more of release, this trend needs to stop( release unfinished patch content in later). Good to see the list of improvements for the fans of this franchise but I wished only if they could learn from previous releases and learn from it...

@vallee05: since they announced cpt would be on SFV, they put pressure on themselves causing to release the game too early last year. But the game is getting better and better

I don’t think Capcom will live down the “controversial” launch of Street fighter 5, at least not any time soon, but it’s still nice to see them supporting this title as well as trying to improve and add to it.

Hopefully they have learned from their mistakes and will move forward to improve this and future street fighter installments.

@videogameninja: They won't change any minds until people actually play the game and see it's fine... but nobody will play until they've changed their minds...

Unfornately Capcom says there will never be another release of SFV, but a relaunch could help them

@girlusocrazy: LOL!!!

For the first time in street fighter history this is probably the best/most acceptable time to have another version released. Unfortunately, as you pointed out, Capcom has been adamant about letting it be known that no other version will come out.

How ironic is that?
