Stranger Things Season 4 Teaser: Hopper Is Alive And Cold In Russia

The most and least informative teaser to date.

At the end of Stranger Things Season 3, the audience is led to believe that Hopper died in a fire, and then there is a glimmer of hope in a post-credit sequence that he may actually be alive. A new teaser for Season 4 of the hit Netflix series puts all the theories and questions to rest, for now.

In a 50-second video, which you can see below, Hopper is revealed to be alive and far away from his hometown of Hawkins. What else does this teaser reveal? Not much, sadly.

Considering the title of the video is "From Russia with love," the military surrounding this camp, and even the birch trees, it's safe to say Hopper is in Russia--living his new life as a guy who hammers railroad spikes into the ground. That's pretty far from his normal stomping grounds of Hawkins.

Co-creators of Stranger Things--Matt and Ross Duffer--made a statement about where Season 4 stands: "We're excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway--and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper! Although it's not all good news for our 'American'; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human... and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything..."

Back in December, the Stranger Things writers revealed that the new season will arrive this year via a cryptic tweet, proclaiming that "we're not in Hawkins anymore." With production finally underway, there is a good chance Season 4 of Stranger Things will arrive in November or December on Netflix.

I loved the 1st season but 2 and 3 have been a chore to get through.

Thx for that spoiler. I am allways avoiding to watch trailers because of things like this and you put it on your homepage. Please stop reviewing films and series and just go back to gaming. That is what you are really good in.

Even though it was obvious he was still alive I don't know why they decided to reveal this before the season even started

Did people really think that Hopper was dead?

@gargungulunk: I don't see how. They basically tell you he's alive at the end of Season 3.

But the internet is weirdly touchy about any kind of spoiler.

@mogan: Because some people like the thrill of seeing it the moment happens and not months before. Some people avoid spoilers, I do personally, I don't even like trailers that much, because they tend to give too much away.

Of course most people didn't think he was dead, but it's still a unnecessary spoiler.

glad I wasn’t planning on catching up on this after I fell behind at season 2. What poor form to put the spoiler so upfront. Note to self: Every time I plan to watch a popular show or movie, don’t come to Gamespot for videogame news.

Like one of the other readers on this website, l also try to limit my exposure to trailers. Gamespot goes the extra step these days and not in a good way. Last year’s treatment of GoT was awful.

I have a feeling this is becoming very much like Heroes where they start off with a good concept and then don't know where to go.

@uninspiredcup: Heroes fell apart midway through season one when the writers strike happened. It might be a stupid ending but at least it won't be as bad as the fall of Heroes and then drag on for 2 more years. Oh and then have a reboot starring the worst characters from the original, seemingly also written during the writer's strike with how godawful it was.

@uninspiredcup: I think I read that they've got an ending in mind, and it'll be either this season or the next. Hopefully that's true. I'd hate for this series to pull and X-Files.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but the guard standing on the railroad tracks looked a lot like Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones/Jack Ryan S:2)... great actor, no doubt Netflix would tap him for Stranger Things.

We all suspected it, but I have to agree with some of the commenters, posting it right up on the front page is a bit egregious. I know it's all about the clicks, but dang man.

Ah well, my guess was confirmed early. Still can't wait to see Season 4.

I get that it's in the trailer, but posting it as a headline is the biggest spoiler for anyone who was avoiding the trailer.

You should know better, Gamespot.

Then he meets Natascha Romanov and becomes The Red Guardian. Damn it all connects.

Stranger Things is just one of those shows that comes around once every 20 years! It's epic and nostalgic in all the right ways and does the best depiction of 80's/90's lifestyles!

@Jimbowesker: After the last few years with Castle Rock, Hill House, Watchmen, etc... television is officially ruined for me. Most shows feel so stupid now, like trying to watch a sitcom with laugh tracks after living through the Office or 30 Rock.

@Jimbowesker: The last 10 years have been sort of a golden age of television, at least for the drama genre. There are plenty of shows in that time that rival, if not outright beat, Stranger Things. And Stranger Things is great, so that is saying something.
