Stranger Things Season 3 Breaks Netflix Records

That's a lot of views.

The latest set of Stranger Things episodes have proven to be quite popular with viewers, according to Netflix. Stranger Things Season 3 premiered on the 4th of July and managed to amass record viewership in its first few days of availability. The streaming network announced on Twitter that the show is "breaking records," citing some of its internal numbers.

According to Netflix, 40.7 million "household accounts" worldwide watched Stranger Things Season 3 after its first four days. That's higher than any other movie or TV show on Netflix after its first four days. According to Netflix, 18.2 million people finished the entire season in that span. (If you're one of them, be sure to check out our collection of Stranger Things 3 Easter eggs--of which there are many--broken down by episode.)

A "view" according to Netflix is when an account watches 70 percent of an episode of a show or 70 percent of a movie.

Stranger Things Season 3 is pacing well ahead of some of the other most popular Netflix shows. 45 million homes worldwide watched Umbrella Academy during its first month, while Sex Education and You were pacing toward 40 million household views over their first months, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

With Stranger Things Season 3 reaching 40.7 million homes in four days, it's clear to see how hugely popular Stranger Things in comparison to Netflix's other big shows. If you haven't yet dived in, you can check out our Stranger Things Season 3 review for thoughts on how it's bounced back from Season 2.

People watch it because it's new not really because it's overly exciting. Netflix is there for when you can't be stuffed doing anything else in life or if the weather is so bad you can't go anywhere. Trying to work out how good a show is by number of people who watch a streaming series is pointless.

In most regards this show is well past it's prime. Apart from a few funny scenes with the main characters the entire series was samey and boring until perhaps Chapter 7 and 8 in any case.

7 and 8 does save it from the dumpster fire the other episodes had it heading for.

This entire series could have been done in 3 to 4 episodes instead of stretching it to 8.

Gamespot is going the way gamefaqs went 5-7 years ago. It’s dying.

@alastor529: Tagging is not the same as as replying, maybe they have some plans to change this website's look and feel.

I can see the link to Reply. It's not hidden. Maybe it depends on web browser? Using a desktop PC and Google Chrome, it's there.

@Archangel3371: Surprised you stayed awake for most of it. It was so weak until the last 2 episodes i kept hitting fast forward on quite a few spots to hurry things along. Too much padding in most of the episodes.
