Steven Yeun Revealed As Sentry In MCU Debut

The Walking Dead star to join Marvel's team-up movie, Thunderbolts.

In a recent interview with comic book artist David Finch, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman let fly that Steven Yeun is set to play the role of Sentry in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Thunderbolts. During a conversation live-streamed on Thursday, Kirkman disclosed the casting, stating, "My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie."

Sentry, also known as Robert Reynolds, made his debut in the comic books in 2000 and has since been a part of many Marvel series, including New Avengers and the Dark Avengers. The character's storyline revolves around Reynolds' rediscovery of his superhero identity and the impending return of his archenemy, the Void. Rumors of Yeun playing a significant role in the movie surfaced in February, but it remained undisclosed until Kirkman's recent statements.

Regarding Yeun's involvement, Kirkman shared, "Yeah, he called me, he went in for a costume fitting. I hope I'm not... I don't think this is a spoiler or anything that will get anybody in trouble." The costume, drawing inspiration from the Sentry's classic colors, is expected to feature a blend of yellow and blue, reminiscent of Yeun's previous superhero role as Invincible.

Yeun is scheduled to make his MCU debut in Thunderbolts, set to release on July 25, 2025. Director Jake Schreier hinted to ScreenRant earlier this year that the movie will offer "something different" for audiences compared to previous MCU entries. The cast also includes Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Florence Pugh, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, David Harbour, and Harrison Ford, among others.

On Monday, Marvel Studios announced a number of delays for its upcoming movie slate.
