CBS has released the first trailer for its limited-event series The Stand during a virtual New York Comic-Con event. Based on the 1978 Stephen King novel with the same name, the CBS All Access version offers nine episodes offering "an apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil." Check out the trailer below.

According to an official synopsis, "The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård), the Dark Man. The Stand will close with a new coda written by the famed author himself."

Basically, all you need to know is: A show based on a bestselling Stephen King novel is being turned into a show that will probably alternately chill and disturb you. (The Stand was previously adapted into a 1994 ABC miniseries starring Gary Sinise.)

Rounding out the ensemble cast are Westworld's James Marsden, The Playboy Club's Amber Heard, Watchmen's Jovan Adepo, and musician Marilyn Manson.

The limited series is slated to debut on December 17 and run weekly through to February 18, 2021.
