Directing It will be Andres Muschietti, who is no stranger to the horror genre, having directed Mama. Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, and Jeremy Ray Taylor will appear in the film alongside Skarsgard.

In the story, a group of teens overcome their fears to eventually defeat the creature It, but years later, he returns. As adults, they must work together to do the job again. The first movie will be about the children's story, while a second will chronicle the adults' narrative.

It's been a long time coming for the It movie, as Cary Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation) was attached to direct at one stage, though he would eventually drop out due to creative differences. Will Poulter (The Revenant, The Maze Runner) was pegged to play Pennywise, but the search for a new director took a while and he could no longer commit to it.

Last week it was revealed the Duffer brothers, who made the recent Netflix smash Stranger Things, were also in line to direct It prior to Fukunaga. Although the project didn't proceed very far with them attached, they did cast Finn Wolfhard as the young lead of Stranger Things based on early casting sessions for It. Wolfhard would then be subsequently hired for Muschietti's version.

It is scheduled to hit theaters in 2017.
