A new entry in the SteamWorld series is finally on the way from developer Image & Form, by the name of SteamWorld Headhunter. Announced during this week's Thunderful World event, SteamWorld Headhunter is described as a co-op action-adventure that also features a "head-popping twist," stylized visuals, and colorful third-person action.

Other than that, details on the game are being kept under wraps, but there is a reveal trailer which you can watch below to get a feel for the upcoming game.

SteamWorld Headhunter is the sixth entry in the franchise, and the first to present itself as a 3D game. All the previous games--SteamWorld Tower Defense, SteamWorld Dig, SteamWorld Heist, SteamWorld Dig 2, and SteamWorld Quest--have switched between genres to deliver memorable 2D experiences, although each game does share some impressive art design, atmospheric locations, and a quirky cast of characters.

If you've been curious about the SteamWorld games, now's a great time to try them out as the SteamWorld Bundle currently has a 71% discount on Steam. Alternatively, you can grab the delightful SteamWorld Dig 2 for free on Steam and GOG for a few more hours.

While SteamWorld Headhunter is Image & Form's first 3D SteamWorld game, the studio is getting some experience in that dimension with The Gunk. A game about cleaning up an alien world that is under siege from a hostile ooze, The Gunk now also has a release date and will close out the year on December 16 when it launches on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
