During a visit to Namco's E3 booth today we learned that the company has acquired the North American publishing rights to Stargate SG-1: The Alliance. Moments later we got our first look at the game when a Namco representative agreed to give us a brief demo of the Xbox version.

Currently in development at Perception, Stargate SG-1: The Alliance is closely based on the Stargate SG-1 TV show but will feature an all-new story arc spanning multiple planets and involving multiple alien species. You'll assume the role of one of four different characters in the game. You'll be accompanied by the other three and will be able to give simple commands to them. You'll also be able to revive any of your colleagues if they die, though you'll have only around 20 seconds to reach their bodies.

Each of your four characters will have different weapons and abilities at their disposal, such as a sniper rifle, good melee combat skills, or a talent for deciphering alien runes. Perhaps the most exciting thing about Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, then, is that you'll be able to play through its entire campaign cooperatively with three other players online. The game will also support up to 16 players in deathmatch play.

Stargate SG-1: The Alliance is currently scheduled for release in North America toward the end of this year. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
