For farming sim fans looking for something a bit more action-packed, Bad Ridge Games' upcoming RPG, Mirthwood, is one cozy game you might want to be keeping an eye on. Announced earlier today, Mirthwood is a medieval fantasy life sim that allows players to create their own adventurer and set off on a journey filled with ancient ruins and supernatural creatures, as well as settle in at their homestead, grow some crops, and find romance.

Mirthwood kicks off with your character reaching the titular town after having fled from their war-torn homeland. Shortly after their arrival to this mysterious land, they must work towards not only establishing themselves in their new home, but establishing the kind of life they want to lead as well. Fortunately, your character will have a lot of options, as the game features crafting, foraging, farming, trade, combat, exploration, quests, and a socialization component that can lead to romance.

According to the game's press release, choice greatly impacts the overall experience, as "those with wanderlust may elect to navigate through treacherous forests, explore ancient ruins, and battle against formidable creatures to uncover the land's hidden treasures," while other who "long for the simple life of settling down" can choose to spend the bulk of their time upgrading their homestead, building a farm, raising animals, and interacting with other villagers using a "Sims-like relationship system." With an open-world, non-linear progression, and branching, decision-based narratives, Mirthwood aims to offer players ample opportunity for "multiple playthroughs and unique experiences."

Mirthwood is scheduled to release on PC in early 2024 and is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
