Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Mark Hamill Doesn't Like This Version Of Luke Skywalker

I agree with Mark regarding Luke. The character would not end up trying to die on an island, having given up on trying to do good in the universe and having lost all hope. I mean Luke turned Vader to the light side after all! The character really had a lot of hope. In the Last Jedi everything feels hopeless. Maybe when we fit the movie in with the new trilogy we may view it differently, especially if things improve greatly for the heroes in episode 9. But I was really depressed watching last Jedi. I did like what they did with Kylo though. And I felt pity for Rey because she was trying to do something that the entire movie was showing you couldn’t be done, with rebels dying by the hundreds and becoming extinct. And Snoke. Now we will never know who the hell he was.

I know the prequels were bad, but Disney's version of Star Wars is a far far worse bastardization.

It was an alright movie. Nothing more or nothing less. Pretty disappointing for the next installment in a massive series such as Star Wars I suppose. Then again, I have always enjoyed Star Wars, but found it to be extremely overrated. This new Trilogy isn't bad, but it feels hollow to me in comparison to the classics.

The best Star Wars' stories are in the extended universe anyways...... Which the almighty powers at Disney have decreed non cannon.... Sigh*

The more I read about peoples reasons for disliking it the more it cements my reason for loving it.

For any of the great Jedi to become one with The Force they had to fail and a fail hard, then accept it and move beyond it.

Luke was a broken man when he went in to exile, he failed and saw darkness not just within Ben but within himself in the form of fear.

In the end he saved the day in the most Jedi way possible, without striking a single blow, without violence.

I have a feeling for ep IX e'll see plenty more Luke but as a Force Ghost and as powerful, maybe more so, than Master Yoda.

I love Luke’s arc in TLJ. It shows that a great man can still experience failure, self doubt and even moments of weakness and shows that no one is infallible. It shows that even the greatest of heroes, is still human but it isn’t his moments of weakness that defines him, it is his moments of greatest that truly makes him a legend and defines his legacy. It also shows that he is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice when needed and to save those in need.

I also really loved the way that they handled the issue of Rey’s parents. It speaks to the fact that you don’t need to come from a certain bloodline and family to achieve greatness. I really hope that they don’t go back on this theme in Ep 9. I think it was handled beautifully in TLJ. In the end her lineage is unimportant, it will be her achievements and actions that will truly define her character and not which bloodline she was fortunate enough to be born into.

This movie gave us something that we rarely see in this franchise and that is nuance. The movie isn't perfect but it is a damn good film and treats its audience like adults but given people’s reaction to this film, I guess George was right when he stated that these films were created for children.

I liked the mystique behind Lukes character in Force Awakens, but I agree with Hamill overall. I don't like the direction they took his character. I know it's just to have him faded out to bring new characters and new story into limelight, but Luke deserves a better ending. Being a Master Jedi, Luke would have had stronger feelings that wouldn't have allowed him to shun himself off. They did the same thing with Obi Wan. The best characters they make, they make bad decisions with. Luke and Obi-Wan growing old crusty and deserted everyone after being the most impactful characters of the saga. Qui-Gon and Boba Fett, saw shameful demises after next to no screen time. Darth Maul only being shown in 1 main movie and the rest of his story on Clone Wars and Rebels. They need to take 10,11 and 12 back before Ep 1 when there were still Jedi and Sith everywhere. Geonosis Colosseum battle scene with all the jedi is still one of the greatest ever.

I absolutely know why many fans hated The Last Jedi. And I know that Disney will completely concur this notion, even though absurd fans like all of you won't.

Primary Reasons-

1. Fans were angry with The Force Awakens derivation from Episode IV and so, wanted a remake of Empire Strikes Back for which Disney could have been criticized. As such, a revolt for assigning George Lucas could have been brought. But they didn't get a remake, and instead was treated by far, the best film of the franchise which a mix of new and old characters with backstories as entertaining as ever. (Proof- See all the critics reviews. Metacritic:80+,Rotten Tomatoes:90+etc) Exasperated, they started bombing it.

2. One should check out-https://screenrant.com/george-lucas-star-wars-sequel-trilogy-story/ and know that Rian's story somewhat resembled to the sequel trilogy plan of Lucas. So, in other words, fans would have criticized no matter what. Because criticism doesn't need money and fools like you would never understand the story of Star Wars. You're all(haters) just 10 year old kids looking for some immature jabbing and meaningless fighting.

3. All the DC/WB fans were disheartened by the ridiculous Justice League and so, to defeat Disney, they had to speak against Star Wars The Last Jedi and reduce it's score to the lowest possible. Why? Greed, Vexation. Apparently fans are bribed by Snyder himself so that, he can continue to direct his films and earn $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. While Disney is bankrupt.

4. Star Wars need to be milked as much as possible. And why not? When Fast and Furious does the recycled story continuously, none blames them, when we see Spiderman for the 5th time, none blames it, or Superman and Batman just rises and saves the city/planet/galaxy for the 10000th time, none ever complains about them. yet they blame Star Wars. It seems the fans(or cynics) don't know what they want.

Denouement- Don't give a sh*t about the opinions from Star Wars haters.

I love it. It's time to let the past to die. I love to have a broken Luke, I love to see Luke die in peace and I love to see Reys with no background. I think that all this was necesary to let the past die nice and carrey on with new stories in this beatyful universe. I m happy to see Disney buying the franchise

TLJ Luke should be named Luke Warmwater, because he's certainly no Luke Skywalker.

Reys parents being nobodies is actually far more effective than being somebodies. Does that mean that the force sensitive boy at the end needs to be from Royal background? No. The answer is in the OT where Yoda explains that the force is everywhere and what binds us. Just some have better abilities in tapping into the power than others.

Seems pretty obvious that Kylo Ren was trying to convert Rey to the dark side during that moment when he told her that her parent's were nobodies. It's clearly a lie he was spinning help push her, and in the 3rd movie we'll find out they were actually important. The second movie of this trilogy was very ... not what i expected. The characters did almost no development, large chunks of the story were pointless, but what I disliked the most is that space is just another room in this show. A hole opens in a ship, no vacuum effect. Bomber girl at the start is sitting right over the open bomb bay ... in space... no suit... still breathing.

This sooo much THIS. Mark Hamill is right about all of that and why although the movie was good it failed to be great in my mind. Luke would never end up like that and it seems like Rian Johnson and Disney are more inline with destroying Star Wars and what it means to many who grew up with it in an attempt to draw in a younger crowd.

Luke was always a bad ass in my mind. I didn't like how they handled his character.... Movie was fun and by the end I feel like Luke regained some of his notoriety but I agree with Mark Hamill

Star Wars long ago became a consumer product. And so it is with all those comic book character movies. In the 80s, when they started repackaging kids toys as movies, they just consumated the capitalist process.

You're not watching a movie, you're consuming a franchise: the movie, the video games, the happy meal trinkets, the whole piece of crap.

It's barely storytelling. Art, hehe, dream on.

No shit Mark Hamill feels this way. We had three OT movies to see Luke fleshed out as a character; it really doesn't take a genius that they discarded Luke's characterization in the old movies and made up their own version of Skywalker.

And for the delusional posters who are going in topics spamming "omg you just wanted him to be EU Luke". I haven't seen a single person make that argument; criticisms of Luke have almost strictly been in comparing him to OT Luke.

Saw this movie on sunday and I am just accepting the reality of it. It's just a movie and it wasn't made for me and that's ok. At least kids are getting something to enjoy but I'm not going to push my kids into it like my dad did, ROTJ was religion in my household. I wonder how much of this franchises success is based on that.
