Star Wars: The Force Awakens Deleted Scene Reveals Arm-Ripping Chewbacca

"I'm not afraid of you!"

Although the initial release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens contained several deleted scenes amongst its extras, there were even more included on the 3D Blu-ray/DVD set that was released last month. One of these sees Chewbacca deal some rough justice to the villainous Unkar Plutt. A shorter version of the scene was revealed in October, but now the full version has made its way online. Check it out below:

Plutt is played by Simon Pegg, star of the Star Trek and Mission: Impossible series, and he is the junk dealer who caused Rey (Daisy Ridley) no end of trouble on the planet Jakku. In the final cut of the film he is not seen again once Rey and Finn (John Boyega) leave the planet, but as this scene reveals, he had one final, unpleasant encounter with them.

Ridley and Boyega will return for Star Wars Episode VIII, which hits theaters in December. Director Rian Johnson recently revealed that he has known the full title of the movie for more than two years. "It was in the very first draft I wrote," he teased. "When will we learn it? All in good time."

The director also confirmed that the film opens immediately after The Force Awakens, and that the bond between two major characters will be an important part of the film. Additionally, Kylo Ren actor Adam Driver has shared some insight into his character and how he's evolved for Episode VIII.

Star Wars Episode VIII is released on December 15, 2017.

For everyone saying it wouldn't have made sense with the tone, you have to understand that at some point in production there were those trying to push for a darker, less Disney version of the film, but ultimately Disney went with the version where Rey can never be shown needed help from anyone. (Rey actually needed to be rescued from the StarKiller base at some point, and she didn't quite have a spontaneous mastery of the Force mere moments after learning of its existence either.) As for this specific scene, it actually had another version (visually) that offered a certain symmetrical irony where Chewbacca didn't just hurt his arm, his lost it altogether and eventually got a sort of robotic/energy arm (like Bao-Dur in KOTOR II, I think). They shot a few scenes like this one as test footage and eventually decided to go against it, or so I imagine--my sibling was working with ILM on some of the shots and I recall an incomplete shot with Chewbacca presumably losing or already having lost his arm, as it was covered in tape and motion trackers.

They deleted the scene because Rey actually required someone else help that would have caused the feminist to leak badly.

@Keitha313: The feminist delusion and brainwashing would have been snapped on the audience.

@Keitha313: I think it has more to do with tonal inconsistency. Having the scene where Rey talks to Finn about why he's leaving right after this one would have been really awkward.

@Keitha313: Perhaps, or because it doesn't add anything toward developing characters, relationships or the story.

Certainly not PG-13 enough for today's standards.

Loving all the unemployed film critics in here whining about how this was A New Hope. redux. Some people liked this film, get used to it.

@ShadowsDemon: But couldn't "Some people don't like the film, get used to it" be said to you? I know it's a ridiculous thought on the internet. Where there is one true opinion and anyone who differs from said opinion is crazy (unemployed), but people have differing opinions on what they enjoy. Some people enjoyed TFA, others didn't.

@ShadowsDemon: For one, I am employed. For two, my comment below is directed toward this deleted scene in comparison to a specific scene in A New Hope and their similarities. And finally, I never once said the movie as a whole was bad. In fact, I enjoyed it immensely, and think it was the best thing to happen to Star Wars since Return of the Jedi (and Rogue One surpassed even this movie IMO). But I don't think anyone could argue that there wasn't a lot of similarities between specific plot points in both films. I came to that realization about 3/4 of the way through my first viewing of the film on release day, not because I feel like joining the hate parade. Copying a good movie correctly still yields a good movie.

@ShadowsDemon: It's such a boring argument too. Like, just the same opinion parroted over and over again without any actual critical dissection of the movie. I don't know if people even believe what they're typing, they just have that reflex upon seeing "Force Awakens" in print and rush to the comment section to parrot the same tiresome refrain again.

@Dragon_Nexus: Pretty much. I've heard a few good arguments for it, but when it comes "BUT EPISODE 4" in every. Single. Comment. Section. Ever., then it gets really old really fast.

So A New Hope 2015 Edition with added scenes = A New Hope 2015 Special Edition?

"3D Blu-ray/DVD set that was released last month." Last month being the key phrase there.

Have any current news? Any news about the Taft administration? How is the rest of 1909 looking?

I'm glad it was cut..... it would have been pretty bad. I liked the movie by the way.... the place to have Chewie ripping someone's arm off would have been immediately after Chewie witnessed Han's fate.
