Star Wars Super Bombad Racing First Impression

A kart racing game with super-deformed Star Wars characters? Watch out Mario, is that baby Darth Maul in your rear-view mirror?

As part of our continuing coverage of E3, we bring you updated information on LucasArts' big-headed kart-racing game called Star Wars Super Bombad Racing. The game puts you in the driver's seat of different vehicles from the Star Wars Episode I universe. Fans of the movie and of LucasArts' Episode I: Racer will remember the pod-racing spectacle as well as the different types of racers. However, in Super Bombad Racing, the vehicles are karts, and the eight different characters are whimsical, big-headed versions of Star Wars characters such as Queen Amidala and Boss Nass. And yes, there is also Sebulba, perhaps the most famous racer of them all.

GameSpot got a first-hand demonstration of Super Bombad Racing in the LucasArts meeting room. The characters appear quite small, but their oversized heads are a sight to see. The cute characters and lack of violence - except for bumping into other karts and the occasional crash into walls and trees - will definitely appeal to younger gamers and parents alike. Super Bombad Racing is very colorful; shields and powerups take on vibrant, geometric shapes. In addition to its broad appeal, Super Bombad Racing continues the fast racing experience that players of Star Wars: Episode I - Racer enjoyed. I played the game using a gamepad, which was much better than using the keyboard and mouse, so gamers looking to play this title should think about using a gamepad controller or joystick.
