Star Wars' Oscar Isaac Attached To Star In Metal Gear Solid Movie

The actor, who played Poe Dameron, is set to be Solid Snake in Sony's Metal Gear Solid movie

Oscar Isaac, best-known for his role as Poe Dameron in the latest Star Wars trilogy, has been tapped to play Solid Snake in Sony's Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation, Deadline reports. Funnily enough, Issac jokingly cast himself as Solid Snake back in March 2019 during the press tour for J. C. Chandor’s action-adventure film Triple Frontier.

The movie is being helmed by Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who gave an update on the over six-year-long project in July 2020. Derek Connolly, co-writer of the latest Jurassic World trilogy, is penning the script. Avi Arad, one of the producers of the critically acclaimed animated superhero movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, is producing. Sony Pictures is overseeing the entire project, while Peter Kang severing as the executive.

Now Playing: Metal Gear Solid: Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts Discusses The MGS Movie

Vogt-Roberts confirmed the report later on December 4 with a picture of Isaac along with several emojis that should be familiar to the series' fans. He also retweeted several other posts that mentioned Isaac playing Snake.

Isaac has a very prolific filmography, having acted in everything from Drive to Inside Llewyn Davis prior to Star Wars. Last year, he flexed his action muscles with a major role in Triple Frontier alongside Ben Affleck and fellow Star Wars actor Pedro Pascal.

A production start date for the Metal Gear Solid movie is unknown at the moment, but the project is a high priority for Sony Pictures, according to Deadline. A potential reason why a start date hasn't been nailed down is because of Issac's busy schedule. The pandemic is also unlikely to help matters.

Issac is already slated to appear in three films next year: Denis Villeneuve's highly anticipated sci-fi epic Dune (which hits HBO Max and enters theatres simultaneously), Brian Petsos' dark comedy directorial debut Big Gold Brick, and Paul Schrader's crime drama The Card Counter.

Next to these films, Issac has booked himself up with television projects, too. This includes HBO's Scenes From A Marriage with Jessica Chastain and the titular role in Marvel's Moon Knight for Disney+. He will also star in and produce The Great Machine, an adaptation of the comic Ex Machina, and appear in Barry Levinson's Francis And The Godfather with Jake Gyllenhaal.

I really liked him in Drive & Ex Machina. It's not his fault the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy bombed.

@thecupidstunts: Or that scene where he came up on the beachhead wearing that mask after running Ron Perlman off the road.

I don't know anyone with a David Hayter voice. That's really where the gap is with doing a movie.

This is a "we shall see" thing I guess. I couldn't see Cavill as The Witcher and that worked out OK imo.

@lurker_: Youre pretending not to notice self evident things in the game, that Snake is not short.

@lurker_: sure...im just clarifying and responding to your question. You literally asked ''Do we know how tall Snake was?'' and the answer is very well known.

This comment you've made now is something else and you could have said that in your first post because you might have a point there. Just saying. No disrespect intended at all.

Besides, any gamer who plays MGS can clearly tell that Snake is a tall character. If people dislike this actor because of that, it's just their opinion, let them be. However, they are not wrong either, they just have their point, like you have yours.

@so_hai: Just like Elijah Wood was too tall to play a hobbit? Seriously, what kind of idiotic objection is this?

@Seymour47: being too short means all the villains and other characters need to be casted wirh the same standard or snake will look like weakling. (or maybe thry will pull tom cruises and edit all scenes so that oscar can stand on a stool)

eliah always has looked like a weakling who cant keep a ring away even from forest bunnies

I would personally rather see them lean into the surreal aspects of Metal Gear along with the violence, meaning I'd rather see a lower budget Takashi Miike adaptation. Those are always interesting, at least.

No. Just... no. He’s a good actor. I have nothing against the guy, but no. He’s not right for the role.

Lol, a Sony movie.

And, before someone says, "But what about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse?". Do you know how many god awful Sony movies we got before we got into the Spider-verse? More than I would dare to count.

@cboye18: I have literally never watched any of the post-Maguire Spiderman movies (except Into the Spiderverse), because a movie does not need a reboot a couple years later. Let alone 2 reboots. I refuse to support something like that.

@alex33x: I honestly don’t care much about the casting, but that was a really dumb comment. You saying this crap every time a “minority” is cast kind of helps their argument more than yours. Especially when the character (while looking Caucasian) is actually part Asian from his Japanese dna. Dude actually has talent and a long proven track record. Save the venom for when you have any kind of point to stand behind.

@dts15: Proven Track Record? Before the force awakens he was a nobody, a B-List actor with no lead roles. Then he got put in the God awful Disney Star Wars movies, because of affirmative action nothing else, because everything Disney does now a days, has a to be politically correct, even if historical accuracy has to be thrown out the window.

Also FYI Solid Snake was inspired by Kurt Rusell's Escape from LA and Escape from New York. Hideo Kojima has stated this multiple times. I find it hilarious that all the purple, green, pink hairs scream oh mommy when, a role get's minority washed, but when it's the other way around it's the end of the world.

@alex33x: Ex Machina, Drive, X-Men:Apocalypse, (shit movie, but a big role regardless), Body of Lies. He wasn't B-List by any stretch.

@alex33x: You are an idiot. The character no matter who they were inspired by is still part Asian...Historical accuracy for an often times absurd video game about a clone American solider that was created by a Japanese game designer...And Isaac was already in Ex Machina, Inside Llewyn Davis and other award winging movies before he was in Star Wars so wrong again. You try hard but just make yourself sound like a bigger dumbass.

A Splinter Cell movie would make more sense, and would be a lot easier to pull off.
