Star Wars Han Solo Movie Filmmakers "Struggling" to Find Star, Says Auditioning Actor

"You know as much as me."

The question of who will play the young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff movie is one that fans have been speculating on for months. Now Dave Franco, one of the actors in the running to play the iconic space smuggler, has spoken about his experience of auditioning for the role.

In an interview with MTV News, the 21 Jump Street star admitted that he had no idea if was still being considered for the role. "Everyone's coming up and being like, 'Dude, what's going on?' And I'm like, 'I don't know. You know as much as me,'" he said. "I don't want to underplay it, like, I'm very flattered to have been or to be whatever, wherever they are in the conversation, but, like, it is what it is."

Franco was also asked if he tried to impersonate Harrison Ford when testing for Solo. "I'm not good with impressions," he revealed, "I think that's the reason it's so hard to cast this role, too. It's like, do they want to like perfectly embody who Harrison Ford is, or do they want to go a completely different route? Do they want someone to look really similar him?

"So, I don't know, I think they're struggling with that, maybe."

Last week, it was reported that Alden Ehrenreich was currently the front-runner for the part. Other actors who have tested for the role include Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Taron Egerton (Kingsmen: The Secret Service).

The Han Solo film is to be directed by Jump Street's Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, from a script by Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. It is currently set for a May 2018 release.
