Star Wars Battlefront's Outer Rim Expansion Gets First Image, More Details

Outer Rim is coming in March.

Star Wars Battlefront got a big new update today, but that's not all Electronic Arts announced. The publisher also shared a piece of art for Battlefront's upcoming Outer Rim expansion, which is the first paid expansion for the Star Wars shooter. Check it out below.

No Caption Provided

EA also confirmed a few more details about what's included with Outer Rim.

It comes with more maps, weapons, heroes, and an "all-new mode." The content will take you to places like factories on Sullust and Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tattooine. No further details about the new mode were divulged. We also do not yet know a specific release date for Outer Rim.

In addition, EA reiterated today in a blog post that all Battlefront players can expect new updates in March, whether they buy Outer Rim or not.

At least three further expansions will follow: Bespin (summer 2016), Death Star (fall 2016), and an untitled offering coming in early 2017.

Battlefront launched in November 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It shipped more than 13 million copies, outpacing EA's own projections. According to EA, multiple sequels are in development.

this game feels like it was made by an accountant in the style of a power point presentation.

Flashy face, no substance and not interesting.

Have not played it for a good month or two but here's hoping the DLC stuff will make it worth coming back to later in the year.
Bring some space combat into the game, feels like planet wars with air combat atm. :/ :(

Bought this simply because my brother cant play fps. It was really fun for a month, the season pass would have stretched it another month or two. Was the first season pass (that wasn't on a extreme discount like 50%+) I ever bought since I really haven't enjoyed any battlefield except for 1942 and 2.

Game had lots of features missing (dont care about single player) but no in game voice alone was enough to now really never buy a EA/Dice game even if its the only way I can play with my bro. To be honest I probably would have got a refund within a week if I bought it and played with randoms or just friends.

This game is dead already on PC so I can't see this map pack helping very much. Welp back to Battlefront 2.

It'd be nice to have locations set on planets that aren't more sand.

@PikminWorld: Coruscant would be nice and technically, it is part of the "Original" Trilogy remaster as it appears at the end of Jedi during the galaxies celebration sequence.

The problem with Tatooine is that it looks and feels a lot like Jakku.

Haven't played in months. Game is one of the worst shooters I have ever played. The game is poorly balanced weapons and shot accuracy not to mention I hate zerg vs zerg battles.

I left the game months ago. The game is too basic and slow to expand with decreasing populations. Moving on....

Would love to see some of these maps in the new Battlefront, but as stated below by BattleStreak the player population is definitely dwindling. The game is fun, I love it yet I just fear its longevity and how much is worth putting into it. If they were to have a server browser with dedicated servers I would not mind, add in custom gamemodes(Changing life count, weapons available, cards available, weapon limit such as how many available in game, etc) with RP servers and I would be happy(Would probably be for more clan event things). I mean just imagine a limited life mode of walker assault with infantry and speeder bikes only, the game would play so much different. The game is great, it just needs to give the players more control over what will happen with the game.

Jeebus they're taking their sweet time with the DLC for this game. It's bad enough that it's as bare bones as it is, then they have the balls to charge $50-$60 for the DLC... which doesn't have a release date or details of the content, and meanwhile the game is bleeding it's community because it hasn't got the staying power of many other shooters.

No way I'm buying the season pass with people leaving the game. I love this game, have put in around 60 hours in, and am rank 44 out of 50 at this time. But the player population is decreasing. Slowly, but definitely decreasing. Not to mention, so many people are already rank 50, the max rank. No more ranking up and unlocking new characters, weapons, etc. No thanks. I'll still enjoy the base game though.

@klipsch27: Copies sold does not equate to players currently playing. A lot of gamers are on the look out for games with a ton of customization and the like, BF does not offer that very well to players who want that. That would not be the only reason, but the population does seem smaller. Unfortunately this not being on Steam or any other platform which has stat tracking we cannot have concrete evidence. Right now we are basing everything off anecdotes which cannot be taken as fact, only our belief from our experiences.

@Smosh150: Yeah, they have it for Battlefield games too. It sucks every game doesn't have this, with the exception being Steam.

Give me the game for 15$ and maybe I'll buy some DLC.... Whatever happened to bite sized games like Battlefield 1943?

@NoahRoalson: This game has a LOT more content that Battlefield 1943 ever did. Sigh, age of entitlement.

@dlCHIEF58: But a lot LESS content than any other Battlefield game, while still launching at $60.

@dlCHIEF58: Having high expectations doesn't mean entitlement. The game effectively has 4 maps... just like 1943. The only difference is that there are a handful of guns to unlock and the maps are chopped up for different game modes.

@realguitarhero5: There are 4 different SETTINGS, but more maps within those settings. There are more gameplay modes than PF 1943 (though not all of them are good).

@dlCHIEF58: I think a lot of people just think about the vehicles and compare those. Another thing to consider is the time and level of detail for development between the two. I remember Tripwire(Red Orchestra 2 dev) commented on such things and said that it was so easy for them to make vehicles for RO1 and they could just pump them out, but for RO2 it took a considerable more effort even without the interior.

@dlCHIEF58: The base game does not have enough content to justify 60$. I don't think I'm entitled for saying that they should be more reasonable with their starting prices if they expect me to want to pay for DLC as well.

@NoahRoalson: And by the same token, $15 would be a steal on this game as it stands and a sign of this age of entitlement by those stating that is what it is worth --- like you.

@dlCHIEF58: I still fail to see how me saying that I'd only spend 15$ on the game is entitlement. I have dozens of other shooters to play and I don't feel like spending 60$ on another one.
