Details for a Star Wars: Battlefront mode called Drop Zone have been revealed.

The mode, which was discussed on EA's official Star Wars website, is described as being "similar to King of the Hill-style experience" and tasks two teams with gaining control over drop pods.

"The objective in Drop Zone centers on drop pods falling through the atmosphere on the planet surfaces," EA explains. "In tight 8-versus-8 matches, Rebel and Empire teams fight to capture and control these pods.

"Drop Zone is all about action and quick thinking, forcing Rebels and Imperial troops to always be on their feet. Though captured pods need to be defended, static players standing in a cluster too close to their pod always run the risk of being hit by explosives or a well-placed Orbital Strike."

The winning team is the one that captures five pods or gains control of the majority of them after the 10-minutes the match lasts expire.

Developer DICE has also implemented measures to avoid stalemates: "If a pod is constantly changing possession with no team able to defend it long enough to claim it, another pod will be sent down...then, there would be two pods that the teams have to gain control over."

Interestingly, pods also contain Power Pickups, but there's an inherent risk to sticking around to collect them.

"Once successfully claimed, the pod will start to open. This will take a moment, but staying around to get your hands on the contents can definitely be worth the risk," the site says.

"The choice is yours, though; when your claimed pod is opening up, another one will hit the surface elsewhere and going for that one could be the smarter move."

EA has confirmed the Star Wars: Battlefront release date as November 17, just a month before Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters in December.

The game will be released for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. EA is also releasing tie-in DLC for Battlefront based on the movie.

The Star Wars Battlefront beta begins in early October. EA has warned people to watch out for fake beta registration sites.

@chimekolover88: I care a lot about this game. You should move along. You are needed in the fifa 15 forums.

@chimekolover88: And yet you click on the article and give it views, the opposite of forgetting the game and moving on.

That said, I the hell care. Probably a few other people, too.

@chimekolover88: LOL... Millions of people do. Literally, millions of people will be buying & playing this. Thousands of people who were fans of SWBF1&2 have been requesting it for a DECADE.

Avatar image for chimekolover88

@Pyrosa: they were requesting a TRUE Battlefront game, not this shameless, lifeless cheap cash grab devoid of everything fans loved about the franchise. those millions should be ashamed of themselves for defending a game like this.

I'm probably the only sad person who hadn't had his morning coffee yet, read King of the Hill Dropzone, and clicked the link wondering how Star Wars was going to relate to my favorite propane salesman. Still waiting on Pro-Pain.

@polakbob: Heck yeah! I will see you online in the streets of Arlen, sir.
