Star Wars Battlefront Sequels Coming, EA Teases

Plus, EA confirms its deal with Disney covers the new Star Wars trilogy and spinoff movies.

EA's soon-to-launch Star Wars Battlefront sounds like it's getting a sequel or multiple sequels. Speaking today at the UBS Global Technology Conference in San Francisco, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen explained that EA's 10-year licensing deal with Star Wars owner Disney will result in multiple Battlefront games, as well as others in different genres, planned to launch for both console, mobile, and PC.

"It's a big effort for us, and I don't think there's a human being in the world who hasn't heard of the Star Wars movie coming. And so, [it's a] great opportunity," Jorgensen said about Battlefront, which launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 17. "We struck a licensing deal with Disney a few years back that's almost ten years in length. The game that comes out tomorrow, Star Wars Battlefront, is a traditional first-person style shooter game. Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the Star Wars franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC. It's a huge opportunity for us."

"The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is it's almost unlimited in what you can do with it" -- Jorgensen

Another upcoming EA-developed Star Wars game is the one Uncharted director Amy Hennig is working on now at Visceral Games. This project remains a mystery, though it is rumored to be an RPG of some kind.

Also during the presentation, Jorgensen confirmed that EA's deal with Disney not only covers the six Star Wars films released to date (Battlefront focuses on the Original Trilogy), but also The Force Awakens and other upcoming core installments and spinoff entries in the series.

In addition, he reiterated that EA has no plans to make movie tie-ins.

"We get access to all of the historical content as well as all the new content developed," Jorgensen said. "The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is it's almost unlimited in what you can do with it. We know Disney has done a great job with other franchises and we believe they'll do the same with Star Wars over time in delivering new worlds, new characters, new vehicles, all the things that make great video games. Our goal is not to make video games directly about the movies, it's to use the IP in the movie to make great, exciting games."

The only major rule that EA's Star Wars games must adhere to is that they need to stay true to the franchise's established fiction. "You can't do something counter to Star Wars and that's fine with us because I think that's why people love Star Wars," Jorgensen said.

Overall, Jorgensen described EA's partnership with Disney as being "one of the best its ever seen." He noted specifically that Disney has been very helpful in providing EA's development team with the content and access they need to make great games.

eas version was ok got old too fast. then they asked way too much for the dlc. i wont even buy another battlefront game from them again. if they revamp the system i may think on it.

Star wars battlefield 2;!

That's NO Typo before someone says

Avatar image for MoreThot

I'm hoping with sequels they make the game right eventually. I knew battlefront wasn't worth the time or money after the beta and reading more and more as it came closer to release. Listen to the community. I know its a stretch for EA to do something as such but... I'm hopeful.

Avatar image for pretty_odddd

I'm afraid that by staying true to the franchise's established fiction, we won't get another game like KOTOR2. Star Wars will not have any more dark story like that. Such a shame.

The game just came out three days ago, and they've already moved on. Not only that, but DICE battlefront is so hollow, it lacks so much content, it's not worth the $60 price tag. More like $30. And it's clear they held back from creating more content (e.g. weapons, vehicles, maps, innovative game modes etc.) and opted to slap a $50 dollar price tag on that content as DLC. So $110 for a "complete" game. EA at it's finest, people!

@seabassg: I feel truly terrible for anyone who went out and grabbed the $50 season pass. I bought the game alone since my boy loves Star Wars and I thought there would be plenty to do split-screen (WRONG!). Continue with games like this and I'm done.

Avatar image for seabassg

@camverge: I completely agree with you. I had so much fun playing splitscreen with my father on the first Battlefront. Between the two of us, we've probably got over 2,000 hours of playtime on that old PS2. This game would be worth the $60 dollar price tag if it had AI bot support on multiplayer maps for offline play, like Instant action and galactic conquest back in Battlefront 1 and 2. Battlefront 1-2 are still alive today, even after the multiplayer shutdown, thanks to modding and an exemplary single player experience. Oh and I picked this game up on PC for $42 on a secondary market website, and even that seems a bit too expensive.

It's the Devil making a deal with the Devil..... I really don't know who is worse - Disney or EA...

Avatar image for tomahawk08

What about finishing the one that is out?

Avatar image for swarmhammer

@tomahawk08: and actually release what should have been in the launched for free, like space battles and a good campaign. 2 things EA struggles to do right in most of their games nowadays.

Avatar image for rsqviper

The one thing I', hopping is they do not split the community! Give all maps and modes for free and add characters, skins, etc as the DLC. FFS do not charge for maps!!

Avatar image for marmar

That's business. Milk something until people get sick of it and forget even the good times.

Coming soon: awful games about awful movies.

As the americans say, hoooorarrrr, rite?

Im all up for more battlefront's, im pumped for this i been doin my mates head in because i used my 10 hour ea access trial up in two days, and the game is brilliant to be honest. All that laser fire, the different maps, you are that in love with everything going off you can forget the mistakes they have made from the old battlefronts, well not forget but forgive. Lets face it they have not put that planetary mode in yet, i hope they do where you go through all maps fighting one and other and whether you win or lose have a negative or positive effect on the next map. With what i just said they need to add AI bots, they made the game more of a war and more intense. They also could do with allowing players to walk those AT-AT'S straight to the shield generator or there desination and allow the players to man there guns so multiple players can get in them and use a gun each like the old days, rather than a measily 30 seconds or a minute.

But like i said despite those few things, playing that trial, brought me back to those old battlefront days and i think im falling in love all over again. (who needs a woman) Lol

Bring it on

Avatar image for wexorian

So i'l translate this for all, Sheep Buy our overhyped garbage game that cost 120$ overall and MAYBE repeat it after few year and Maybe MAYBE we will make good game after 2nd sequel. Go on sheeps give them money.

Avatar image for ltjohnnyrico

@wexorian: Sheeps ?? .. Moron !!

Avatar image for wexorian

@ltjohnnyrico: So you actually call yourself a sheep i see, you ain't just buyer.

Avatar image for ltjohnnyrico

@wexorian: Where do you see when I have called myself a sheep ? .. No ... Anywhere? .. Right !!

Your comment this time made even less sense than your last !!

Avatar image for xzerocarnagex

@wexorian: my hands on 10 trial through ea acces, has shown me that what i thought was overhyped in the beta, i was wrong, it showed me that battlefront is simply quite brilliant..

Avatar image for wexorian

@xzerocarnagex: Good for you. everyone have their opinion for me it's waste of money coz they sell butchered game.

Avatar image for Shilleto

@wexorian: when people stop buying call of duty every year then you can start bitching but right now just no

Avatar image for wexorian

@Shilleto: They should stop buying annual and overhyped games that have adds every page everywhere cough cough gamespot and had been wasted millions for marketing.

Avatar image for Dark_sageX

Hopefully the next game actually exceeds Battlefront II and would include a proper single player campaign like Galactic Conquest or 501st.

Avatar image for xzerocarnagex

@Dark_sageX: i agree that galactic conquest mode was amazing, so to the clone wars are needed, which i can see happening as either dlc or in the next game. We mite end up seeing two star wars franchises pop up there you have star wars with the empire, luke n darth era, the clone wars with obi won and grevious era, it wouldnt surprise me if they went that roote. Id be happy with them both..

Avatar image for GhoX

Begun the clone war has.

Avatar image for earlgrey

This is how I see it, three movies over the next 3 years (2015,2017,2019), The games will follow suit, giving two years between each game to allow for season pass. The reason why they are only focusing original trilogy for this game is because clone wars era will be in the next game and so forth. Battle of Jakka is a transition to the new era, which I feel will be brought back to SWB3 in 2019. I don't care what ya'll say thats my thoughts, take it or leave it.

Star Wars Battlefront - 2015 - Original Trilogy

Stars Wars Battlefront 2 - 2017 - Clone Wars

Star Wars Battlefront 3 - 2019 - New Era

Either way I'm getting these games, Star wars on this graphic level is amazing. Yes the content is lacking for single player but oh well. Deal with it stop complaining. Complaining over the internet is going to fix it.

Avatar image for wexorian

@earlgrey: Game got low scores everywhere go on sheep feed pigs.

Avatar image for ltjohnnyrico

@wexorian: Low scores .. Most review sites gave it good scores .. learn how a 0-10 scale works dummy !!

Avatar image for Shilleto

@wexorian: review scores don't mean shit

its only what one person thinks of the game

Only 4 planets, 6 heroes. This game looks amazing, but looks like one of those games where you gonna have seen everything there is to see in one day, after that is the same thing again till the next expiation comes which cost a lot of money. If you buy it for the PS4 or XBOX1 you have to pay the subscription too. Is a lose lose. Too bad i wanted to play this one.

Avatar image for tariqkakar

@LeonsKnnedy: I've been playing the same CS map Dust for like 10 years. So have most of CS players. If a game is good, it's good. Also there are 4 planets. with like 4 maps on each planet. Other games have one planet (Earth) with like 10 maps, so there's actually more content here brosef.

Avatar image for LeonsKnnedy

@tariqkakar that sounds good then, ill keep my eyes on this one then, specially when they start to sell it with most of the other content in future bundles.

Avatar image for ltjohnnyrico

@tariqkakar: Exactly !! I've been playing FPS Games for a long time !! And a good 12 maps isn't a bad start, also completely agree sometimes I will play in a lobby with a rotation of only 1 or 2 maps .. if they're good .. they're good !!

Avatar image for chimekolover88

well i saw this coming a mile away. they ripped out all the content like single player/campaign, Clone Wars, space battles and so on just to justify making tons of sequels to milk fans of both Star Wars and the Battlefront games. one early review i read and several impressions point to this game being a HUGE disappointment because of the fact it lacks so much content that made the previous games so much fun. everyone who defended this game should be ashamed of themselves for doing so.

Avatar image for lnception

If you know the value of a dollar, hell, of what a full game is worth then you wont buy this game day 1.

Avatar image for tariqkakar

@lnception: How much are you spending on the new Force Awakens movie ticket? It's around 15$ here in socal and that's for 2 or so hours of movie time. 15$ time 4 is 60$. 2 times 4 is 8. So does that mean 8 hours or more is good value? You can't judge media that way bro. It's about the experience it gives you, not how much content it has. That's why people buy paintings for millions of dollars.

Avatar image for TheZeroPercent

--so people don't cancel their preorders

Avatar image for daBrokenFace

I see this is why Battlefront has such little content
