Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Update Brings Microtransactions, Limited-Time Mode This Week

Huntin' Stormtroopers.

Star Wars: Battlefront II is getting a new update this week, and it'll mark the return of Crystals, the currency that you can buy with real-world cash. The Night on Endor Update is headlined, however, by the limited-time Ewok Hunt mode.

Night on Endor brings back Crystals, which allow you to purchase in-game items with real money. However, DICE has implemented some significant changes following the backlash that caused the studio to entirely remove microtransactions from the game. First, Crystals can only be used to buy Appearances, which are cosmetic items. The update also adds a slew of new Appearances, such as Endor Leia and Endor Han; Appearances can be bought with normal, in-game Credits as well.

Second, Star Cards are not coming back; gameplay and progression-related items are contained solely within the progression system. The microtransaction system will be strictly contained to cosmetic items.

The update will also introduce the first game mode that allows players to play as Ewoks. Ewok Hunt is a limited-time, asymmetric mode that pits a team of Ewoks against a team of Stormtroopers. It is the Ewoks' task to eliminate the Stormtroopers; the troopers must withstand the attack until evacuation. Every Stormtrooper that is killed spawns a new Ewok. DICE hasn't yet said when this mode will be removed from the game.

The update goes live on April 18 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and includes various other tweaks and balance fixes. In addition, DICE announced that Season Two of Battlefront II content will arrive in May. Seasons will revolve around specific themes; the studio hasn't revealed what Season Two's theme will be, but focusing on the upcoming Solo film is a possibility.

This game lasted as long as the single player campaign and maybe like 6 multiplayer games, then done. Such a shame for a big Star Wars fan. Should have know better but hey ho.

The game wasn't good without micro transactions, do they think adding them will improve the game? Hilarious

If microtransactions are going to be in the game, this is how it should be. Keeping it strictly cosmetic.

@Shantmaster_K: Only if a game is free to play. If it's full price, microtransactions are a disgrace.

@sticktaler36: Drug dealers make a lot of money too. Just because something makes money doesn't mean I'd want to do it.

@sticktaler36: Pharmacies don't use psychological manipulation and skinner box techniques to get people to buy drugs they don't need. They fill prescriptions. I have never heard my pharmacist shill drug microtransactions or withhold pills from my bottle until I bought the "drug season pass".

@sticktaler36: Has EA's profits caused them to make better products? Nope. The products have gotten worse. So much for that.

@Flyin3lvl: But people are still working on the game?

If they shipped a game, called it complete, and left it at that, fine. But new content is constantly being generated. Because people are still working. How would they get paid?

your basically saying is now up to us - the public - to pay there wages ..... lets find a way to add micros to mac d so the workers can get more money in there wages

@Flyin3lvl: Without consumer support, in any on going service really, it gets shut down. So yeah, it is depending on how much the public is into it.

Ewoks vs Stormtroopers was as broken as hell in the original Battlefront 2. I hope that at least in this game they make one thing better than the previous one.

You can still buy crystals so does that still mean you get better gear for real money?

Ok, I'm all for "Season Two of Battlefront II content will arrive in May"

But being called "Season 2" are we going to have to pay additional for it ??

@blitxxx1981: Hopefully not! They're still sticking to what they said with all post-launch content being free at least.

An order 66 mode would of been cool a small group of jedi vs clones. Could of even done a dope trailer with Anakin and the clones marching on the temple. Would of been more exciting than ewoks anyway.

Next time, try pulling in the focus group to explain these ultra-obvious concepts to the designers BEFORE releasing the game to the world.
