Star Wars Battlefront 2 Available Now (For Some)

Pew pew.

It's a good time to be a shooter fan: just a few days after Call of Duty: WWII's launch, Star Wars Battlefront II is now available worldwide--for some people. Although the full game doesn't launch until Friday, November 17, those who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition on PS4, Xbox One, or PC can now play the entire game. That follows a limited-time trial launch last Friday for those with EA / Origin Access subscriptions. [Update: Just ahead of the full game's launch, Battlefront II's microtransactions have been removed temporarily.]

If you didn't pre-order the Deluxe Edition, you can still purchase it and gain access to Battlefront II right now. On console it will cost you US $80 / £80 / AU $120, compared to the standard edition's US $60 / £60 / AU $100, but the Deluxe Edition will also get you instant access to Kylo Ren and Rey, plus a number of upgrade packs containing attachments and abilities for use in multiplayer.

As the game is now available, Star Wars Battlefront II reviews have begun to surface around the web. In our initial verdict, Alessandro Fillari wrote: "While its main narrative feels unresolved, and the general loop of the multiplayer carries a number of issues, Battlefront II still manages to evoke that same sense of joy and excitement found in the core of what the series is all about. But as it stands, the biggest hurdle that Battlefront II will need to overcome--for its simultaneous attempts to balance microtransactions with genuine feeling of accomplishments--is deciding on what type of game it wants to be." Read more in our full Star Wars Battlefront II review-in-progress.

Much of Battlefront II's launch has been overshadowed by the game's handling of microtransactions. EA's response to fan concerns about the title's loot boxes became the most-downvoted Reddit post ever, before the company decided to change the cost of some of Battlefront II's heroes at the last minute. Sadly, EA developers have received death threats in the wake of Battlefront II's loot box and microtransaction controversy.

I played for about 3 hours last night and earned over 8,000 credits unlocking 2 loot boxes, the loot boxes don't even come with a guaranteed 'star card' each time even if you pay for them, the articles online claim each loot box takes 4 hours of gameplay which is simply not true. The only people using microtransactions are kids who have their parents credit card. I am supporting Battlefront II because I DO NOT HAVE TO BUY extra stuff to have fun. Read your articles about 'Vader taking 40 hours' even though you can get him in 20 hours if you aren't noob. I respect you guys for boycotting EA in general because of their past, but Battlefront II is a damn fun game. Frostbite 3 engine + Star Wars is enough for me. I repeat, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY EXTRA CRATES TO OWN PEOPLE. I went on a 43 kill streak last night, don't be scared. I'm willing to bet this reddit issue was a campaign by EA to up sales.

Personally, I'm loving this game. Kept me up way past my bedtime last night.

Bit tired of the mob mentality with this title. I get why people are pissed, but I'll definitely get my money's worth without spending any extra on loot boxes.

@aross2004: To be fair I am finding it really easy to get credits just by playing the Game ... maybe the guy that said it takes 4 hours to unlock stuff was talking out his ar$e !

@aross2004: its people like you EA will continue release the game with tons of micotransactions, soon you probably have to paid 10 dollars to insert the disc

@MetaMods: The guy literally said he hasn't spent any extra ! .. I haven't paid any extra either and its easy to unlock stuff in Game ! there is no drama here !

@MetaMods: Blah, blah, blah. I'm not going to boycott a Star Wars game, period. I don't disagree that loot boxes or P2W sucks, which is why I won't pay extra for anything beyond the base game that I already paid for.

And everyone trying to tell everyone else what to do with their $ is BS. I earned it, I can spend it on whatever I like.

@aross2004: LOL did i tell you stop buying it? I did not mention anything a word said "STOP" I am just saying its people like you keep buying those games which keep support more release DLC and microtransaction. It's your money you want spend on microtransaction game go ahead

Avatar image for Tegorian

@MetaMods: You didn't say the word "stop" but when making the statement "It's people like you keep buying..." you pretty much are trying to tell him he and anyone that has purchased it needs to stop. This logic is silly as microtransactions are in games and will continue to be there no matter what we do. You can thank the mobile casual fanbase of games for this "Innovative" way of playing games.

Avatar image for MetaMods
MetaMods

@Tegorian: nope i am not going thank to them, its you people need to realize that you guys start doing it and force developers doing it. I have no longer purchase any games that come with DLC and microtransaction. The logical is not silly its you don't realize it. When the time you go eat burgers, fix your car and when they tell you "oh well you have to paid extra for this" you will argue and defend to the end of earth about not paying it but when comes DLC and microtransaction you just going ACCEPT it? i don't get it

Avatar image for Tegorian
Tegorian

@MetaMods: Look first off get your grammar together that is a hard read. Second you do pay extra for things but you are taking this to the extreme it is a video game, a hobby not something you have to do. Paying extra isn't really what you are doing if you don't like DLC don't pay. Don't like micro transactions don't pay. I get it you don't like them but people are putting in extra work for DLC yet don't deserve to get paid? Get real if you go in for a Tire change they won't do a brake job for free just because you need it done without getting paid. Yes what was originally in place was wrong of EA when it came to unlocks and time to get heroes but that has been fixed. Lets move on either get the game or don't that is up to you.

Avatar image for MetaMods
MetaMods

@Tegorian: LOL you are making no sense at all. "Get real if you go in for a Tire change they won't do a brake job for free just because you need it done without getting paid." If you are getting tire done what that have to do with break? Of course you have to paid, your comparsion has no sense at all. That is more compare to well I am going buy this game but hold on I am also going buy this game. The comparsion should be "oh just let you know we have your screws but we are not going put it back on because you need to paid extra for us to put screw on your tire" DLC and microtransaction has nothing to do with their hard work. Those content already there at the beginning of development, they just cut it out to make extra money out of it. Yeah well I am not from US so my grammar sucks, but as usual pick someone else grammar as your argument is lame

Avatar image for Tegorian
Tegorian

@MetaMods: Like you grammar you logic is seriously flawed. My comparison is apt they would change your tire as you paid for it but they will also inspect the brakes, learn to spell, and if they look like they will need to be changed soon they will make the recommendation. Do you have to do it NO but it will save you an extra trip, see time argument, later. That is the direct correlation to this. Yes they are selling microtransactions that will let you get heroes sooner not locking them behind a pay wall so if you want to spend, here it goes again, extra time to get them fine but you are not forced to and you are getting the game you PAID for with no frills. DLC is something you don't have to have and isn't necessary nor normally completed with the game so no charging extra to put the screws back in is not a comparison.

Also, you assume content was cut the typical conspiracy theory argument that is not true. Also, not being from the US has nothing to do with grammar as i'm not picking on you at all other than your argument is really weak and jumping on the band wagon but believe what you will. I think I'll be playing some Battlefront 2 this evening heck I may even get in on that Microtransaction stuff just for you. :) have a nice day.

Avatar image for MetaMods

@Tegorian: well of course you support it you got the game, I didn't jump on bandwagon of hate. I have been not purchase any DLC and microtransaction game for a long time. I don't care if it was EA, Activision or any games. As long there is DLC or microtransaction i don't support. My point is weak? please you don't have any points that why you give up. You buying microtransaction will get me mad? LOL I won't get mad, have fun waste your money and later on wondering why games are more expensive each days. Just like aross2004 I won't get mad if he buys the gameor not, at the end you guys are the problem in gaming these days and makes developers spend more time try get your money instead of passion on how to make great video game

Avatar image for aross2004

@MetaMods: I should have been more specific. I'm referring to the endless posts I have been seeing here and on Gamefaqs with everyone screaming for a boycott of the game. Not you specifically ;)

Avatar image for deactivated-5a50575ec5600

@aross2004: So your argument is, "I'm a mindless consumer whore and I am a huge Star Wars fan, period."

Nice to know there are actually faces and names to the people who are bringing the industry down.

Avatar image for aross2004
aross2004

@Raidendude153: How am I a mindless "consumer whore" when I already said I wouldn't pay for any additional content beyond what I got with the base game? I knew full well going in that EA was pulling BS with the loot boxes, which is why I won't be purchasing any of them. The only mindless people I see is everyone jumping on the hate bandwagon, it's like mass hysteria over something that is pretty inconsequential in the scheme of things, (wish people would get this vocal about issues that actually matter).

As for the second part of your comment, I really have no defense against being a huge Star Wars fan and I can't see myself boycotting a game that is set in that universe. If in your estimation, that somehow means I am "bringing the industry down", then so be it.

Avatar image for deactivated-5a50575ec5600

@aross2004: We're mindless because we're choosing not to purchase something via the data we've acquired? Try again.

Delusion comes in many packages, enjoy yours while it lasts.

"This game sits at the crossroads between obsessive Star Wars fanboys that have to buy anything with the label on it, mainstream consumerists who have to buy the hot new thing to fill the void in their lives, and self-identified "gamers" who have to buy anything that comes out of the industry and defend even its shadiest practices against all criticism.

So for a lot of people, no, not throwing their money at this thing was never an option for them. Sadly."

Avatar image for aross2004
aross2004

@Raidendude153: I'm not defending any company's practices, I'm defending my right to do whatever I want with my $.

You certainly come off as arrogant making assumptions about people buying things to "fill a void in their lives". How tall of a ladder did you need to get up on that horse?

Avatar image for deactivated-5a50575ec5600

@aross2004: You cannot be this dense. Obviously you can do what you want with your money, that's a non-issue. By doing this with your money, however, you are defending the company's practices.

That was a quote, but it fits you to a T by what you've mentioned with no assumptions required.

Avatar image for aross2004
aross2004

@Raidendude153: If I was buying additional content outside of the main game, then you could say that I am defending loot boxes/P2W practices. However, since I am not, you cannot levy that claim against me.

Avatar image for deactivated-5a50575ec5600

@aross2004: You look too far into things.

You bought the game at full price and therefore supported the developer.

One does not need to "levy" actualities that are already in perpetude.

Avatar image for aross2004
aross2004

@Raidendude153: I think we'll just have to agree to disagree then :)

Of course gamespot feels sorry for ea, they’re paid to. ea has done this to themselves, don’t sugar coat it and make it seem like lowering the hero cost fixed the game.

Yeah, good thing I didn't pre-order this scam of a game and as far as playing shooters goes, I'm currently playing Wolfeinsten 2 & Overwatch and I'll just wait for Battlefront 2 to be on EA Origin freebie.

It's sad to see EA destroying yet another AAA game and it's not Dice fault, EA got so greedy with the loot boxes.

@gamingdevil800: They will make up for lost sales of the game by loads of micro transactions.

@chiefwiggum16: unfortunately this is true, there are many die hard Star Wars fans who will be spending hundreds in micro transactions.

Avatar image for deactivated-5a50575ec5600

@pj80: Thousands, even. It's come out that MTX ran games are literally made for the whales that spend 10k+ on frivolous in game currencies and gambling with loot boxes.

Sorry for the whales that will be lacking the majority of their friends to play this joke of a game with.
