Star Trek: The Experience is Delayed

Las Vegas must wait for Star Trek theme attraction.

Comments

Trekkers looking for an immersive Star Trek experience at the Las Vegas Hilton must wait until the end of the year. The $70 million attraction, which was originally slated for a spring opening and then a summer opening, was apparently too complex to launch on time. Creators cited technical problems as the reason for the delay.

The theme venture is a joint product of Paramount Parks and the Las Vegas Hilton, being built in over 65,000 square feet of the hotel's North Tower. Trek veterans like Rick Berman (producer of Star Trek: The Next Generation and creator/executive producer of Deep Space Nine and Voyager) and Herman Zimmerman (production designer for two Trek series and three of the films) provided storylines for the look and feel of Star Trek: The Experience. When complete, the attraction will include a 22-minute motion simulation adventure where visitors are beamed up to the Enterprise, briefed, and sent on an adventure. It will also include a restaurant and lounge, interactive video stations, virtual reality stations, and state-of-the-art computer games.
