The next Star Trek series on CBS All Access will be a bit of a departure from the other shows on the streaming service. Instead of a live-action drama, it will be an animated comedy, and it's called Star Trek: Lower Decks. A new trailer has now arrived, just a few weeks before the release of the show.

The latest addition to the Star Trek Universe on CBS All Access--joining Discovery and Picard--arrives on Thursday, August 6. This time around, a Star Trek series is focusing on characters you normally wouldn't see on the bridge, helming the ship--according to the official description.

"Star Trek: Lower Decks focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380," the description explains. "Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies."

The show will feature the voice work of Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, and Eugene Cordero. All of the characters these actors work on the U.S.S. Cerritos under the command of Jack Ransom, who is voiced by Jerry O'Connell.

The series is developed by Mike McMahan (Rick & Morty, Solar Opposites), and Season 1 will consist of 10 episodes. We'll learn more about Star Trek: Lower Decks at Comic-Con@Home on Thursday, July 23 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET during the Star Trek Universe panel. The event will also feature looks at Picard and Discovery as well.
