CBS has released the opening scene for the upcoming premiere of half-hour animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks. The spin-off series, due to debut on CBS All Access on August 6, "focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet's least important ships."

Developed by comedy writer and television producer Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites), the series' voice cast includes Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Dawnn Lewis, Jerry O'Connell, and more. It's executive produced in a partnership between Roddenberry Entertainment, 219 Productions, and Secret Hideout.

The opening scene, doubling as a teaser for the new series, was released in tandem with today's Comic-Con@Home Star Trek Universe panel, which can be viewed here. The panel also touches on Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. Another animated Star Trek series, Prodigy, will be coming to Nickelodeon and was also revealed during Comic-Con@Home.
