Star Citizen, the upcoming PC space sim from Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts, has released teaser trailers for its first-person shooter, racing, and planetary exploration modules.

According to the short statement on the game's website, a different, still unnamed studio is working on the FPS module, which will allow players to board enemy ships and fight other players from a first-person perspective. The 40-second video doesn't show any gameplay, but it is supposedly in-engine. According to the teaser, we should learn more about it during PAX Australia. Chris Roberts previously said that the plan is to release the FPS module after the planetside module (below) and before the single-player portion of the game called Squadron 42.

The trailer for Star Citizen's racing module gives us a much better idea of what to expect. It will be added to the game in v 0.9, and allow players to compete for the "Murray Cup." As you can see in the video, it looks like a straightforward racing game, with players flying their ships through checkpoints and boosts around a track.

Finally the Roberts Space Industries Constellation Commercial gives us our first look at Star Citizen's planetside features. As Roberts explained in a previous post, atmospheric combat and ground exploration were among the most common feature requests for Star Citizen. In order to achieve it, Star Citizen had to form a team dedicated to researching and developing procedural generation technology (like the one No Man's Sky uses), which it did when it hit its $41 million funding stretch goal.

The trailer, which riffs on Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, doesn't show much gameplay, but it does show us how the game's Aquila spaceship can land and deploy a ground vehicle. The planetside module should release to backers in fall 2014.

okay first offwhy the **** does it matter if you can buy the ship or not? they said they will be selling the in game currency anyway... so you could still buy your ship regardless wither they keep that option in or not, secondly its a skill based game meaning even if i have a constellation and you have the starting ship whichever you choose if im a shitty pilot you will kill me so why does it matter??? and finally chris previously stated that they will have the option to sell in game currency because if they didnt people will still find a way to sell the money or ships through real money anyway so they wanted to try and eliminate that option, yes i own a constellation phoenix and an ageis avenger so what i have a real job i work in real life i dont want to have to come home and in order to enjoy the game have to have a "second" fucking job just trying to get a ship so i can enjoy the game i work already i dont want to come home and fucking work again just to play the game, and im sure many other people feel this way about that part so stop complaining when you know nothing about the game and why they do things

This game triggers too many alarm bells. I'm more of a No Man's Sky believer. Something aint right here.

I've been playing it for a while and it certainly is shaping up nicely. They have a lot more features coming so it will really start to feel good down the road some. It feels like a competent space shooter in motion already, it just needs a lot more TLC!

I'm enjoying Elite right now, I've also backed Star Citizen and this looks awesome but will wait for it to flesh out in updates before I get back into it. And No Man's Sky... wow, I want to play them all!

Every good game has haters. Looks like SC now has a hater-follower (the guy below). They must be doing something right. ;)

<< LINK REMOVED >> srsly... Are some people spending a lot of money on this? Yes. Does it currently cost $30 for a new Wing Commander AND a new Freelancer? Also yes. Cue h8.

@Platypus_Stan @reanor2 Yes, but what some people don't understand is that most of us gave our money to CIG so that this game can actually be made. Honestly I dont care when, I am not obsessed, I have all kinds of other things to enjoy in my life. But we trust in Chris Roberts and we know that he will deliver. It will be one of a kind game. Haters can hate, I dont care. But development is already on a right track. Delays are a normal thing. Whoever posts these hateful weird posts need to chill, get a life, stop being obsessed, grow up, <add more>.

I wonder why are you so angry about this specific game. Why take it so close to your heart. Just chill and do what everyone else does - play what you like. Why rage? You have no prove to base any of your conclusions on. Yes they have had delays, which is NORMAL in AAA game development. I guess you are the backer pissed at CIG that your little toy smells a bit differently and has different looks. Relax, and smell the roses.

Lets, just for a 5 minutes, look at the videos on strictly gameplay, and ignore the bright colors, pretty lighting, and euphoric HD graphics.

The gameplay is FU*CKING BORING!

Am I looking at the same gameplay other PC gamers are looking at? Other than the graphics, this game looks like it is played like $HIT. The controls look terrible, and haven't changed since the last time they demoed the gameplay. PC gamers that strictly look at graphics are the plague of the PC community.

Avatar image for NinjaGaz

<< LINK REMOVED >> It does look like it would be more frustrating than fun. I remember one of the dev's demoing the flying mechanics and it looked like it was the first time he'd ever played the game he was so out of control.

I'd love for the game to be good, but it does look like the gameplay will need a bit more work on it!

Lol no, you just throw out wild conspiracy theories with no proof and subjective opinions about what you like in a space sim.

Avatar image for mestremun
MestreMun

@MAD_AI @mestremun And you just thrown conspiracy theories about Star Shitizen that you are imagining that it is going to be good (but so far, sucks entirely) and dare to compare with existing games (that by the way, never sucked since their first Alpha).

And there is not too much "conspiracy theory" when the things that CR said are just throwing whatever excuse out the window to convince you to give money in a period of time, just for later, showing how incompetent (or liar) he actually is.

Avatar image for MAD_AI
MAD_AI

<< LINK REMOVED >>

You obviously need to look up what conspiracy theory means, and while you're at it look up subjectivity. Star Citizen never sucked, I'm having more fun with the combat here rather than in Elite, by the way the previous sentence is an example of subjectivity.

"And there is not too much "conspiracy theory" when the things that CR said are just throwing whatever excuse out the window to convince you to give money in a period of time, just for later, showing how incompetent (or liar) he actually is."

Burden of proof falls upon the accuser, please present your proof that this entire thing is a scam and that he is lying, and please don't let your tinfoil hat slip.

You know it's kind of ironic how the Elite hardliners are attacking SC while more than a year ago they were flooding the SC forum pleading us to back Elite and Chris had to back Elite himself in order to help. The irony is just delicious.

Oh please your entire rants here have all been about discrediting the SC team.

That's your proof? A delay ? Please spare me, the game grew in scope thus the delay. Hint, Pillars of Eternity, Divinity Original Sin, Torment Numenera, Wasteland 2, Etc...etc..., all kickstarted games that got delayed because they grew in scope, that is not false advertising, that is reality pure and simple, even in the AAA industry so please you might want to revise on your definition of what constitutes to be a proof.

Please don't talk about ethics, I payed 40$ to get into the SC beta, Braben was asking for 150$ which I obliged because his kickstarter was failing. Also every ship in SC is available in game for in game credit, a fact that I knew you conveniently leave out. SC is handcrafted for each planet and each system, Elite is using procedurally generated systems which means much less work to be done in a less short time. Even then Elite is going to wait for an expansion pack for planetary exploration which might only see daylight in 2016-17.

You failed to present any proof, any fact, your entire argument is based on a delay which every game suffers from. Your complaining about lack of progress? What do you even care? I doubt you're even invested in the game.

OMG! Game is delayed so it must be a scam, that one hell of a strawman argument you're hanging on, it really only goes to show how argumentatively and factual bankrupt you are.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> regarding handcrafting ED will have Sol system completely handcrafted and authored, and it is rather hard to compare methods, because one heavily relies on 3D artists, and another heavily relies on...3D artists, algorithm crunchers and high level game designers. FD lead artist in his meet the team interview said that it has been big challenge to change thinking of artist's team to create procedurally generated systems.

"No. Braben asked a high price to get only people with total understanding and focus on earlier testing, instead getting money of everyone, appealing with low price entry and ignoring that those were not interested so much to test a game for 4 years or more."

Oh please, I bought in for 150$ and so many of my friends and none of us bother to file bug reports and I doubt that many do, 150$ for beta access is beyond immoral.

"I didnt hide the fact that shipswill can be acquired by gameplay in SC. That will happen... in years ahead, instead a few months ahead, as it should be."

As it should be according to whom? You? Are you the developer? Are you privy to the inner workings of the game development ? No you're not, games and projects get delayed that's a fact of life deal with and stop the self entitlement.

"The remaining of your screams I am not even answering because it is already answered in other comments. And again, you scream the scam accusation, one that actually, I did not make."

Which is why I said discrediting the SC team.

"But, neither you nor myself could be sure that its not, mainly due the difference from what was promised to this point and what was done... andIf they fail to deliver all their promises it will be considered basically a scam for the majority of people, anyway, except fanboys. "

You sound so sure, again please present any factual hard evidence that this game will fail. See it's not so much that the game is going to fail more so it's about you wanting the game to fail for some unknown reason, maybe it's personal between you and CR or the SC community, I don't know and I don't care.

"At the end of the day you will continue to be the loser that you proved yourself by your answers... so dontbe afraid. Nothing will change. SC will be a massive success, for you and the other whales that are sustaining the Shitizen attitude of this company."

Wow, thank you for letting me know the level of maturity (immaturity should I say) that I'm dealing with. You failed to provide factual evidence, any argument you might have is thinly veiled and the hurling of insults right now is just the icing on the cake that just proves you have nothing, argumentatively bankrupt, like conspiracy theorist screaming about the Illuminaty, except even less serious.
