Stanley Parable Designer Opens New Studio, Former Rare Composer Grant Kirkhope on Team

Willian Pugh, the one of the designers and writers of The Stanley Parable, has founded a new studio called Crows Crows Crows, which plans to announce its first game soon.

In a poetic statement to GamesIndustry, Pugh discussed the other members of the studio, one of which is Grant Kirkhope, who composed music for many of Rare's most memorable games, including GoldenEye 64, Banjo Kazooie, and Perfect Dark. More recently, Kirkhope has been attached to Civilization: Beyond Earth, and Yooka-Laylee.

"I'd like to announce a new place that makes stuff, sometimes polished, but around the edges rough, we're going to be announcing our first game soon, so god have a bit of patience you big baboon," Pugh said.

"Our studio's got Jack who made Castles in the Sky, Dominik Johann who's better at art than I, Sean O'Dowd with Andrew Roper too. Don't forget ME!! WILLIAM PUGH!!!! (Also Andreas Jorgensen and GRANT KIRKHOPE!!!)."

On Twitter, Pugh said the studio's "debut game is quite imminent."

Davey Warden, the other mind behind The Stanley Parable, recently announced and released his next game, titles The Beginner's Guide. The first-person narrative game was described as having "no traditional mechanics, no goals or objectives. Instead, it tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand."

In GameSpot's review for The Beginner's Guide Edmond Tran called the experience of playing it "an absorbing journey into the thoughts and processes involved during the creation of a video game."

He continued: "It succeeds in helping you understand and sympathize with game developers as artists and people. It equips you with important tools to perceive and think about both video games and other mediums in intelligent ways. It’s a game that lives up to its namesake--it’s the beginner’s guide to the meaning of video games."
