In addition to Squid Game Season 2, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is working on a new satire series about the Netflix show and how popular it became. The show is "provisionally" titled The Best Show on the Planet, according to Deadline.

Hwang said the show is only "in its infancy," so there is very little to go on at this stage. However, what we do know is the show will be based on Hwang's own insights into the show's massive overnight success.

As for Squid Game Season 2, in the same interview Hwang said he is feeling an "immense amount of pressure" given the huge success of the first season. "I am having nightmares about the reception for Season 2 not being so good," he said.

Before this, it was reported that Hwang was in "final discussions" with Netflix for Season 2. Right now, he has about three pages' worth of ideas for a script, so it's still early days.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said Season 2 of Squid Game will be part of the company's plans for a "Squid Game universe." It appears the satire series may be part of that effort to expand the Squid Game franchise.

In other news, Netflix just recently laid off around 150 US-based employees amid falling subscriber numbers.
