Square Enix's World Ends April 22

Some cynical gamers would suggest a non-Final Fantasy, non-Dragon Quest game set in modern-day Tokyo from Square Enix could be a sign of the apocalypse. If that's true, the collapse of everything is imminent, as the role-playing game publisher today announced The World Ends With You, its upcoming action RPG from the team behind Kingdom Hearts, will see an April 22 launch in North America.

Previously titled It's a Wonderful World, the 2D action role-playing game follows the antisocial adolescent Neku after he wakes up in Tokyo's Shibuya shopping district with no memory of how he got there. When not piecing together the mystery by exploring the city or fending off what appears to be a demon invasion, players can immerse themselves in Japanese cultural trends, trade the latest Shibuya fashions with other players, or check out the included multiplayer minigame.
