Update: Square Enix kicked off its E3 2019 press conference with another look at the Final Fantasy VII remake. Following an extended combat and gameplay sequence, the developer shared an extended version of the trailer first shown during the Final Fantasy concert on Sunday night. It also revealed the Final Fantasy VII remake will come on two discs, and there will be an extravagant collector's edition that costs $330 USD. The original story follows.

Square Enix's long-awaited Final Fantasy VII remake has finally gotten a release date. The game is launching exclusively for PS4 on March 3, 2020, Square Enix announced during a Final Fantasy concert ahead of its E3 2019 press conference. Alongside that piece of news, the publisher released a brand-new trailer for the much-anticipated title.

The new trailer provides a fresh look at how the classic RPG has been reimagined for PS4. The video runs for a little over a minute and, like the trailer shared last month during Sony's State of Play presentation, showcases a handful of familiar characters as well as more gameplay footage. Take a look for yourself in the embed above.

The Final Fantasy VII remake has been a long time coming. The game was first announced during Sony's E3 2015 press conference, but since then, we've only gotten trickles of new details about it. Square Enix had previously said the remake would be released in multiple parts, although it made no mention of that when it announced the game's release date.

The release date is already a major piece of news for the Final Fantasy VII remake, but we expect there will be more to see of it at Square Enix's E3 press conference on Monday, June 10. The show begins at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET (2 AM BST on June 11); be sure to follow along with GameSpot for the latest.

My fear about the presentation of this game, is the dubbed american voice. I hope that the original japanese voice will be an option that we will be able to choose. My God the arrogant american voice are ruining everything. When DBZ came from Japan, then France (that is why super butouden were only released in Japanese and French, even the genesis one, only release in both countries) we honored the manga, then it came to your USA. Oh my God, i thought we would die when we first heard about the voice dubbed. So loud voices and so wrong. Why don't you play only xbox and FPS, it suits you much more ha ha ha.

The presentation of the Remake during Squares E3 was absolutely incredible. If I were to re-imagine FFVII, this remake definitely fulfills that expectation. The only down side, I'm going to have to buy a PS4 Pro.

@thelostscribe: You'll have to buy a PS5 as well if you want to play the whole game, because it is quite likely that we will not see the complete game any time before 2022, (and that's being conservative, it could easily be longer than that.).

@aross2004: and even after knowing this people are still going to buy this incomplete game? Boy and people like to trash talking FF XV and 7 was a comple game from the 90s and now people are happy that they will get a remake of that game but sold in parts over many years and probable spaming 2 Consoles generations? how is that Ok? Unless you never played FF 7 before......but if you played the original many times before then you know whats going to happend anyway......geez......this is terrible, it can start a very dangerous practice and lootboxes and microstransactions are alredy bad enough....dlc is not that bad because in reality it has always been there in the form of Expansions or Multi versions like the WHole Street fighter II renditions (Darn it capcom) but this....this is going to be dangerous....and before anyone say that Hack and Xenosaga did then lets just say that both series have been not only dormant for a long time now but there werent REMAKES of a pre existing videogame, thats the difference.

@aross2004: That's a high probability, however, even back in the PS3 days when this was teased(didn't own one) I said if this remake happens, it'll be a system seller for me. Haven't had a Playstation since 2 and frankly, I didn't play the PS2 very much.

The upside, I can probably grab up all the other good exclusives for cheap by next year.

I am so thankful that I got a PS4 Pro early this year. Will buy day one and FFVII was also the first PS1 game I bought along with the PS1 console. Great memories!

Is anyone else worried that they said part 1 will be mainly in Midgar? I LOVE FFVII, but Midgar was such a small part of the actual game (5-6 hours tops). Does Midgar alone warrant a $60?

@ixidjfrizzixi: They said they are adding much to the story and gameplay. From what I saw, I don't think they will disappoint.

@tsunami2311: FFXV combat was bad ... but the FF7 remake seems to be more like dragon age so it might be good if they but more strategy and less button mashing.

Like Resident Evil 2 remake and Shenmue 3 FF7 remake is one of those long sought after titles that has been in gaming limbo for what has felt like an eternity.

The fact that SquareEnix has finally landed a confirmed release date is music to fans ears. I’m just praying that FF7 remake has the same kind of impact that RE2 remake had earlier this year. With games like these the expectations are extremely high.

The subtitle said Remake (and no mention episode 1) so maybe they won't do an episode format like they announced at the first reveal of this game.

@supamastergamer: They said it will be a series of standalone games similar to the FF XIII saga format. They just don't like saying it will be like that because they know people are a bit skeptical about it.

@supamastergamer: I hope so. Unless the episodes are in-game purchases.
